HOW to get a chance at CUSTOMER SERVICE IN AMERICA......

you call the 1-800 operator.......and ask for the corporate offices of__________
dial the number and ask for the PRESIDENT's OFFICES......and there if you
are lucky you will find the last vestiges of customer service in america!

Tonight, I found out that GOOGLE........has renamed my town. OMG!
apparently, my town...HOLLAND,PA is now village shires, PA. village
shires is a condiminium complex located in my town.

Here is what I received tonite from a customer service representitive that tried
to fix my profile on their website:

So I went to google maps to try to report the problem.....and yes, there were direction how,
but all led me to a circuitous go screw yourself roundabout.

and yes, I must tell you I own this stock.

so tonite I wrote to their press department, that if they do not fix this....I am going
public.....I mean really public, not my blog which probably 2 people read....but will write
to anyone and everyone that will listen.

GOOGLE is an advertising company....NOT AN AUTHORITY. suddenly anything that they publish
is fact..........that is scarey considering.....that they have renamed my town.....to a condiminium......and have my town residing in that condiminium complex....don't you think?
I would love to hear your thoughts on this? It disturbs me, greatly!

oh so tomorrow, guess who I will be calling........1-800 operator to get the google presidents office......bet his customer expediters will fix this mess.........till tomorrow....

Mexican Black Bean Soup with Chipotle and Sausage

It is cold and damp outside, fall has come and it is here too stay. Leaves falling everywhere, and the winter storm damage of last year is still being repaired, here.

It was a busy summer for me, soaking up all the rays of sunshine I could find, doing my storm claim, getting quotes and contractors and finally the work has begun. The house got painted, the garage doors were replaced, the back door is almost finished...the electric box still needs to be repaired. Broken tree limbs were cut down and made into firewood for what I believe will be another record cold winter with lots more snow.

So....today, I started my first pot of homemade soup. I try to make 3 or 4 for the winter months storing the extra in smaller containers in my freezer. Today's soup is my version of Mexican Black Been soup. Here is the general recipe...feel free to add in other things which will interest your tastebuds.

1. one bag of dried black beans soaked overnight in six cups of water, bring to a boil and simmer for 2 hours with one large dried chipotle pepper,seeds removed. Drain.

2. one large onion and 3 cloves of garlic and half of a large carrot, chopped...and sauteed in olive oil, until lightly browned. Remove and put aside.

3. brown 1-1/2 lbs of sausage lightly in olive oil. use any combination or all, smoke sausage, andouli, chiorizio.... set aside.

4. when bean are cooked......drain taking the dried pepper and cutting it. put drained beans, pepper onions, garlic, carrot mix in large stock pot, with the cooked sausages. Add 64ozs. of chicken stock plus 2 tbsp of tomato paste. Bring to a boil...and then simmer. Add the following spices to taste:1 tsp cumin, 1tsp mexican oregano, 2 tbsp cilantro, 2 tbsp lime juice, sea salt and ground black pepper. And if you like very spicy a chopped jalepeno or two. Simmer for an hour or two...

5. Let soup cool. Remove sausages and cut into bite sized pieces....put aside. Puree beans and soup broth in a food processor. Put puree back into pot, and add sausage pieces, Stir til blended.

6. Serve soup with garnish of chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, chopped jalepenos and sour cream....YUMMMMMMMMM.

april is almost gone..........and

I have spent most of this month spring cleaning.......or meditating or planning.........and throwing away mounds of papers.......about 43 bags full. I decided to take time off from managing the estate, it was really
burning me out. I am just starting to feel back to my old self, after a month and a half break.

I have a ton of storm damage.....roof, back door, deck, fence, walkways, trees limbs to be removed.........and these contractors take forever getting back with the quotes.

My knitting group at bucks county knitters on ravelry, met for the first time at my home last saturday.......it was wonderful sitting outside and knitting. We are going to do it again this Sunday.....hopefully, I will take

some pics to put up here.

I have been working on recreating the lettuce leaf scarf by lucy neatby........being too cheap to buy the pattern...I have come up with my own version using the photos as inspiration. After ripping it out a few times, I think I have captured her basic concept, but you be the judge. I am using the leftovers from the skew sock, since I ripped out the heel up sock that was too tight. Here is a pic for you of my progress to date. I cast on 20 stitches and am using size #2 US needles.

The bottom is composed of six short row sections beginning with 20 stitches and worked around like half a pie. Then I begin to go across on 40 stitches, doing a ten stitch short row to create the side ruffles. Once I get further and know that I like it, I will post my recipe for this unvented scarf....tentatively named the savoy cabbage scarf.

I also started on the drop 181 pattern.......I love how it is coming along. I am using stash yarn, filaturi di crosa....ganimede. It is turning out great, almost done with the flounce. It is 416 stitches for 6 inches.

Other KNITTING news:

I like the idea of toe up socks, but, in looking for another pattern, I found that most toe up socks seem to have an issue with the heel .........in any case, I started a new pair last Monday evening,......Overlapping Leaves Toe Up Socks by Lynn Wiemelt.......with the leftover skew yarn ...........and I love these socks, but after doing an inch of the leg......I am afraid to say, they will end up being frogged, because I am unable to get them on, because the leg is too narrow.....ARGGGGGGH!

I have frogged them back to the heel turn where I have 8 gusset sts on each side......and I am sitting here trying to develop a solution that will work, not really understanding toe up socks, quite yet. My only experience to date, was a bit SKEWED........as in the Skew Socks, by Lana Holden... ;-)

Currently, I am thinking of knitting the backs in plain stockinette st.......and leaving the extra stitches on the back till I get the sock over my instep. I have high insteps......but, thin legs , ankles and heels.....so this does not quite make sense to me yet.

If anyone has any advice for me......other than knit cuff down socks......please, please......comment away.

I Was Feeling a Bit Mentally Skewed After..........

my latest debacle with guess who.......and happened upon the new Knitty pattern by Lana Holden.....called SKEW.

Without delay, I cast on.......with some sock yarn I had bought at a LYS sale........but did not like the look. We started a KAL on the Bucks County Knitters group on ravelry. Feel free to join us......

I went hunting into the stash room, when guess what I should find......my missing digital camera from almost a year ago......LOL!!! Now I have two cameras...UGGGH!!! In any case, I did not find a sock yarn that I wanted.....so went hunting in my bedroom and found some alpaca and silk singles perfect for this sock on my schacht spinning wheel.

I spent two days spinning the remaining roving, which I love. I began the Skew again......as soon as it was dry. I am happy with it so far. The directions are well written, it is fun to knit....and I am finished both socks. It is tough knitting with the #1 needles though, not sure I will venture this small again.......

The heel is a bit tight to get on, but feels fine once you are in them. Lana has offered several suggestions for modifications to her pattern....which you can read on her blog. My own suggestion is to go up a needle size if your sock is a bit too tight.....I wish I had knit them on 2's.

I was so excited about finishing my first toe up socks, I decided to cast on for the Overlapping Leaves Toe Up Sock Pattern, which is a free ravelry.com download. I have read comments that the heel maybe an issue......will let you know as I progress.

The Big Dig Out.....Blizzard of February 10th, 2010

My aching....aching back!!! I could have dug to china by now..... :-) I dug dog trenches 7 times, the pathways to my front door, 7 times....the driveway.....once. Oh my.

I lost 5 large trees, my fence is broken.....and I fear more damage will occur before it all melts....from the weight of the snow. I could hear the limbs cracking all night long from the weight of the snow. It was sooooo very beautiful.....but, damaging! Tomorrow, we will deal with the trees.....thank God, I have a friend here helping me.....or I would not be dug out today.

A train of 3 snow plows attached to big heavy trucks, went back and forth 14 times, before the street was passable for vehicles. Someone said, we got plowed out first because, of the number of physicians that live on my street.

Just the amount of snow on my SUV, was a massive shovel.....I have not seen snow like this, since surviving the Blizzard of 1978 in Boston, Massachusetts..... It was much worse, no driving for a week or so and the National Guard was there.

We got about 18 additional inches on top of the snow from last weekend. There are walls of snow piles, everywhere you look. My dogs run through their trenches and are crazed because, they can not see above them.

It is 4:30 pm, and I have been digging out since 7:30 am this morning! Nap time :-)

It has been snowing since last nite.......we are having a whiteout at this moment, the snow is very heavy and wet. The roads and my driveway were completely shoveled at 11 am....this morning....when we had about two hours with no snow.........and then it started again, stronger and faster.

Here are some photos of my back yard, front yard and driveway area, the side of my home.....

Snow day.........many businesses have closed, roadways are closed down due to low visibility. The branches of the trees are sagging from the weight of the heavy snow..........

It is beautiful...and I am very grateful for a warm house.

I am working on my freeform jacket. I attended a class with Prudence Mapstone of Australia at Nancy Nagle's art gallery/yarn shop called Nangellini. It was great meeting Prudence. she is very inspirational and her garments are more special close up and in person than her photos even show. I highly recommend taking a class from her, whether you are a knitter or crocheter....you will enjoy it.

It's my BIRTHDAY today...........

and I feel I should post something about that auspicious event....other than the fact I started this post at 10 am........and never got further than the first part of this sentence @ 4:45pm. So much for having a relaxing day.......

what did I do?

1)watched my stock charts, but did not make any changes to the portfolio.
2)attempted to sew up a crocheted bra I made, but never got past lining up the three squares.
3) investigated new smart phones in anticipation of my july 2010 new phone day!!!
4) made food for the pups.
5) contemplated making a sourcream pound cake until I realized I was almost out of butter.
6) watched the pre-launch chat on the new shoe money, how to make money on the internet.
7) took off my nail polish and re-painted my nails.
8) spoke to old friends and others bringing birthday wishes.
9) cleaned out my pocket book, which was BIGGGGGGGG!
10) spoke to Skacel about their art felt paper. Which I am very excited about...more to come about this in the future.

AND......about to get dressed to meet UFO boyfriend for B-day dinner....did I actually type that?
YUPPP!!!

Was it a good day?

Yes, so far at 5:11pm.....but, did not have dinner with UFO boyfriend yet???? I definitely, got a lot accomplished, that I had wanted to do for a long time. It is Thursday here at the dogbearplanet and that is learning day....Learn something new. And even though it was my birthday....I learned something new...and that IS MY GOAL this year....every Thursday. I
will write more about that in the future as well.

So I must bid you adieu, as I am late for my shower and a birthday date!!! :-)

My holiday gift to you........Mushroom Beef Barley Soup

I know I am the dead beat blogger of this year......sorry, have been absolutely overwhelmed with managing my aunt's estate.....and getting her house ready for sale. I have had little time for much of anything else, including knitting, which rarely happens.

I am snowed in today, we have had about 14" of snow....and have been shoveling pathways for my dogs to walk.......which just makes you want to have a bowl of really good wholesome soup.

So decided to make my favorite Mushroom Beef Barley Soup and post my recipe here on my blog, for you to join me, if you so desire:

You will need a very large stock pot, I use my cuisinart stock pot that came with the set.

2 lbs of beef cut up into bite size pieces, best to do while partially frozen.
( chuck, round steak, sirloin steak )

1 1/2 lbs of mushrooms, cut up.

1 large onion cut up

1 large rib of celery diced

2 carrots diced.

tablespoon of thyme

2 tablespoons of parsley, fresh is best.

1 tablespoon of beef bouillion optional

Large can of tomatoes

4 marrow bones ( 1" high)

butter

16 cups of water

1 lb of medium barley ( quaker makes a good one )

step one, lightly brown meat with half onion, put aside.

step two, saute til translucent remainder of onion, celery and carrots
with half of parsley, salt and pepper right in same stock pot.

step three, add water, and chopped tomatoes with juices, bouillion, salt
pepper, beef marrow bones......bring to boil and immediately lower to simmer,
partially cover with lid. simmer for an hour and a half. ( note if your tomatoes
are very acidic, which sometimes happens add a tablespoon of sugar to broth.)

after the broth is to your liking, taste it.

step four add the rinsed barley and simmer for another 45 mins. You may need
to add more water, if the barley soaks up too much of broth.

step five, while the barley is cooking, chop the mushrooms and saute with salt
and pepper to taste with the butter, for about 15 mins till most of juices are
gone, set aside.

step six. when barley is cooked......add the thyme, mushrooms and beef and simmer
another 15 mins, add additional salt and pepper if desired.

step seven.....EAT THIS SOUP IT IS GOOD!! It is wonderful with a nice glass of red wine
and fresh crusty baked bread on a cold winter's night. Put some of it away in your freezer,
in small container's to microwave for later, because it is way better than canned soup.

You can vary this soup by adding other veggies, like zucchini, corn, peppers or beans. I like it the way it is....You may want to add an extra lb. of beef if you like your soup really, really chunky.

Fall is just around the corner, time to take your knitting into high gear....

I am working on the rib tunic from Vogue Knitting Fall 2007, and using annie

blatt angor anny....in a pale gray green.

Have not made much headway....am still working on my aunt's estate paperwork......What a mess?

Which brings me to my next point......get thee to an attorney, find a form online, but organize your effects so those near and dear don't have to do it....At the minimum get a three ring binder and put your important papers in one place....all bank records together, stock records together, deeds to property, titles to cars, boats and other vehicles......Write down what you would like for your funeral, so your loved ones are not guessing or arguing over what to do..........it is hard to make these decisions for someone else, when you are so sad.

If you told someone they could have something after you die, then write it down....so they get what you want them to have........or put a note taped under the item.......it helps. Otherwise let's face it, anyone can say anything......which is worth nothing.........after you are gone and can't verify it....oh well. These are just some of the things that have run through my mind, during this process.

I am buried in papers, and now buried in my aunt's papers as well.....and wondering, if I have a tree's worth here in my home.....and I have clutter issues of my own.......LOL! It is sort of upsetting to be organizing her things, when I do not have time to organize my own........but, it has sure been a wake up call for me......as I know, if I croaked in the middle of the night, my family would be cursing me out........and hey, who could blame them.....because, I am not organized for life, let alone upon my death. LOL!

Here's hoping you are all knitting, while I am sorting through papers....papers, papers.......and more papers!

Life is conspiring to thwart my progress..........

or no matter how hard I try, I seem to always be treading water......

I regret to admit, my Deadbeat Blogger status, remains unchanged,due to circumstances out of my control....it has been a month since I last posted, because my aunt died.

It seems like I have been running on overdrive,
since June 18th. First the coroner, then the funeral home, the priests, the graveyard.....and then the lawyers and the register of wills.....and the estate........papers, things collected over a lifetime...all under my care to resolve, dissolve, distribute.

and silence in my life, where her spirit once roamed.

This is a photo of her beloved backyard sactuary. A place for birds and wildlife to still roam that she created on almost 3 acres of land.....in an area that is overburdened with suburban tract homes... it is beautiful with a
creek running through it.....

She lived a long interesting life, she was 88 1/2 years old......and suffered from all kinds of illnesses ....that would have killed most, 20 years earlier.....proving that the will to live is much stronger than medical science. She wanted to die in her own home, and that, she did.......no nursing homes for her. Active and independent to the last day of her life. Oh and her name? Jessie P. Falcone....aka Celsimmina Bonpina Paradiso.

My aunt had a really remarkable life, admist her medical problems that plagued her from the time she was a young adult, she never let them stop her from living life. She kept moving and doing until her very last days.

She is a testimony to the strength of the WILL TO LIVE....and that anyone can overcome the trials and tribulations presented by life, if they have the true wish to endure. This was my aunt.

Her life was about knowledge, beauty and art. She was always impecably dressed and poised. Good manners, grammar and education were important to her..... She loved her family.

She loved collecting memorabilia and visiting museums. She was someone that could accomplish anything that she put to her mind.

She was tough as nails, irascible, smart, intelligent, well dressed and there was one way to do anything, HER WAY, the right way...........and she let you know, in no uncertain terms, what her opinion was.

Jessie grew up in Manyunk on Umbria st. She attended roxborough HS. She went to work as a confidential secretary for MR. Mellor, in the insurance industry. She stayed in contact with Mr. Mellors son's throughout her life.

She was very loyal to those that she loved.

She is the last of our maternal aunts........last of her generation of the paradiso family........ and although this is sad, there is joy knowing that she was able to live independent to her last days in her beloved home, filled with all the things and memories she loved so dearly. We will miss them all, her two sisters, sarah, parma....her
mother josephine.........her two aunts Caroline and Mary.

I would like to say I knit through all that I have gone thru this past month, but, I have not had a minute to myself.....

with all the arrangements I had to make.........will be writing more in the coming weeks on Death....grieving and our system of processing death.......of which, I have many thoughts.....spinning around my head.

The Canon SD IS Digital Elph Camera Arrived.........

finally. It was very quick. I never redeemed Amex points before and am really happy with the process. They said expect the camera in 14 days. I ordered it Saturday and it was here by the following Wednesday. This camera is very tiny, not much bigger than my LG Chocolate phone. I love the cherry red color, which is a departure for me, because it is not black or gray. My phone is blue. Very odd, must be going through a color phase in my life.

But, I digress, I have not read through the literature yet, but did load up the new software and took a few pics....and am very happy with the photos and the clarity. I think I like this better than the Canon SD 1000 I had or have lost somewhere in my yarn stash room.....LOL!! It is very easy to use.....even without reading the instructions, which I despise doing.

The LED screen is very large and clear and it also has a viewfinder, which I like. It is very slick, she said with a big fat smile on her face! Great design Canon!!!

And, here are the very first photos.......The first set is of the T-Squared Tank I designed and discussed in the prior post.

And here is a photo of the current design I am working on. I am using Blue Heron Beaded Cotton Rayon yarn, in the colorway DAWN. I love the colors....and yes they do remind me of dawn....they sort of have a bronze sheen. This yarn is from my stash...and I only had 402 yards. I had intended to make another T-squared tank.....and was wondering how it would look with mitered squares....and then the design morphed into something else. Here are some photos of the start.

It is 6 squares wide.....and I am working on the third row of squares.
So far I am happy with the design.

The yarn though seems to be a bit brittle after you cut it, with tufts of
cotton rayon coming off the center base cotton string. I found myself
wondering if it had something to do with the dye used by Blue Heron.

In any case, I want to get back to my project and make some further progress..

My Stash Swallowed up.......

my digital camera....and after a week and a half I still can not find that camera.

I am crazed. Does it mean the stash does not want to be sold? Does my yarn stash have a life and will of its own? I have tried to pray to every saint that I know, even prayed to the house ghosts to release my camera......retraced my steps, called up friends, hoping they might think of something I did not....NO LUCK!

I am close to giving up and buying a new camera, tonite, which probably means I will find the old(under a year) camera shortly afterwards.....

I hate when I lose important things, it makes me insane. Clearly, THE STASH is a sign of a person with hoarding issues....loss, disposal, etc...are foreign concepts to packrats.

Any suggestions for finding a rogue digital camera, would be appreciated.

On knitting news, I am almost finished my new design. I am tentatively calling it T-Squared. It is a tank top made from modular squares and triangles. I saw it in a dream and woke up and have been working on it incessantly for the last week. All pieces are complete and almost assembled. I would add a photo, but, THE CAMERA GOT SWALLOWED BY MY STASH! UGGGGGGGGH!

My Stash is Totally and Unbelieveably OUT OF CONTROL....

there, I admitted it.........I need to have a stash sale.......because, if I live to be a hundred years old, I can never use all the yarn and fiber that has some how made its way into my home. I would venture to say that I have a small yarn shop in my home. I would also say, this is proof........absolute proof, that I should have owned a yarn shop for the last 20 years of my life. UGGGGGGGGGH!!!

What has driven today's confession, you might be wondering.....along with the fact there are NO PHOTOS????

Last Sunday afternoon, I decided to put some of my yarn up for sale on ebay......which, drove me to go into the stash room. Yes, it has its own room and probably needs its own address.....maybe zip code. In any case, I made the mistake of taking my digital camera with me........BIG MISTAKE!!!

I put it down, in a mindless state of euphoria, while opening yarn bins....and touching my stash....some of which has not seen the light of day since my separation.....and after, I filled a large box with some yarn....I left. Sat down and said, I need to take photos...........OOOPSSS, no camera. Yup, you guessed it......that camera, is somewhere in my
stash room.......lost for one entire week.

My project on this beautiful spring day, was to find it. I started at 10:30 am, it is now 7:31pm and I have been through all the bags of fleece.........and about 20 bins and NO CAMERA. I am 1/3 through the room. I have taken maybe a 2 hour break..........and NO CAMERA.

I am thinking, this is a light bulb moment.......and all I wish I could do at this moment is take a photo of the room so you could understand what I am writing. I have seen photos of incredibly large stashes, online.....and I was afraid mine was possibly bigger.......Now, I am fairly sure........it could be, and that is totally ridiculous.

Over consumption.....and possibly worse than my UFO SITUATION. I am never going to attend another stitches conference, maryland sheep and wool show, Rhinebeck, or yarn store until this STASH is reduced to 1/4 of its present size.

I am now going to go back in there to find enough yarn to sell, to pay for a NEW DIGITAL CAMERA.......because, chances are, it is lost in the BLACK HOLE OF STASHDOM.........and will not see the light of day.......until I get rid of most of that YARN one way or another......So stay tuned for the announcement of the yarns for sale.......and if you are reading this blog and looking for a particular yarn or dyelot.....let me know.........I might have what you are looking for.......in other words, I am taking special requests. Leave them in the comments section.

UFO in PROGRESS.........Off the Grid Vest

As promised here are photos of my current UFO project that I am striving to complete. It has been lanquishing in a knitting bag for 3 years waiting to be completed.

The back was partially completed and was finished last weekend. I cast on for the front and I am almost up to the armhole.

The first photo is a close up of the stitch pattern, which is a combination slip stitch, yarn over pattern. It looks much more complicated than it is.

As such it will look much better after blocking.

I am using some Blue Heron Yarn, which I believe is their cotton rayon seed yarn, but I can not really be sure since it was not marked.

I bought it on ebay in the late 90's when they were just starting out. I have a whole bin of their cotton and cotton/rayon yarns. You might say I got a little carried away with my purchases.

In addition to working on this UFO, I could not resist casting on for the #26 Diamond Rib Pullover by Iris Schreier. The pattern is from the latest Vogue Knitting Magazine Spring/Summer 2009. I like several of the patterns in their latest magazine.

This is the first pattern that I am knitting by Schreier, and will give you my comments as I go through it, with respect to accuracy. She has been the subject of many complaints over the years of poorly written instructions with respect to comprehension and errors.

I have cast on with another blue heron cotton/rayon yarn....turquoise, purples and greens. I have done the first 12 rows....not sure yet, whether the yarn is suitable for this pattern as it has lots of bumps in it and may obscure the diagnol rib pattern. I will post a photo, when I get at least 6 " of knitting complete.

Good News, A FINSHED OBJECT TO SHOW OFF!

Yes, it is true........I finished the #14 Hooded Pullover by Deborah Newtown in Vogue Winter 2007/2008 Magazine.

Here are the photos....of the back and front. I downsized the
sweater by casting on less stitches and it worked out fine.

I am real happy with the finished sweater. Love the yarn I used
sensations. It is absolutely fabulous to use for knitting. I can not say enough good things about this yarn.

I loved this pattern, it was well written and I did not find any errors, which makes the knitting process, so much more enjoyable. I only cast on 118 sts, so the pullover would not
be so oversized, since I am small. It worked out great.

I followed all the rest of the pattern, from the armholes up

I really liked the center waffle pattern and am considering making a scarf out of this pattern

I am now working on a UFO from 2005, from Spring 2005 Knitter's Magazine. It is called off the grid vest. I may add sleeves. Finished the back and am working on the front, hopefully it will be finished by the end of the weekend.

My next project is already planned........# 26 diagnal rib pullover from the new vogue magazine. I am sticking to my policy, one finished UFO, before any NEW CAST ONS....I did do the gauge sample....LOL!!! I am going to use some blue heron yarn that I got on ebay years ago.

Will post photos of the vest and the pullover this weekend......

Checkerboard Scarf - Free Knitting Pattern

I finally finished my KIP 2008 project: a checkerboard scarf. I mainly knit this waiting in post office lines during the holiday season.....LOL! When I finished the Everyone Knows Jacket, I decided to get this off my needles, too!!! Another UFO bites the dust!

As promised here is my pattern recipe for a checkboard scarf. Great gift and easy to knit, with yarn and needles of your own choosing. I used #6 circulars and a dk weight wool/cashmere yarn. This scarf will go much faster with size 8's or 9's and worsted weight wool....but, the finished fabric will not be as drapey as using smaller needles and finer weight wool.

I cast on 9 x 4=36 + 2 =38 stitches.

CHECKER BOARD SCARF RECIPE

1. Choose the appropriate needle size for the Yarn you have selected. The label on the yarn will give you suggested needle sizes for your yarn. Smaller needle size will give you firmer fabric and Larger will give more drapey fabric.

2. Cast on an odd mutiple of 4 stitches, ie. 3 x 4, 7 x 4 plus 2 additional selvage
stitches.

Knit first 3 rows in garter stitch or more if you want a longer border.

Pattern Rows

row 1: slip 1 purlwise, knit 4, purl 4, ending with knit 4, purl 1
row 2 : slip 1 purlwise, purl 4, knit4, ending with purl 4, purl 1
row 3: repeat row 1
row 4: repeat row 2

row 5: slip 1 purlwise, purl 4, knit4, ending with purl 4, purl 1
row 6: slip 1 purlwise, knit 4, purl 4, ending with knit 4, purl 1
row 7: repeat row 5
row 8: repeat row 6

Repeat rows 1-8 till you run out of yarn or until the scarf reaches the length you desire. End with 3 rows of garter or the same amount of garter stitch rows you did for the lower border.

Note: you can make your pattern any number of rows you choose, if you would like larger squares. Remember to change your repeat rows accordingly.

Embellishments:

tassels, fringe, crochet borders, pompoms, etc all would be suitable for this scarf...or leave it plain.

Block scarf when finished to even out stitches.

I am a Dead Beat Blogger...........

I will admit it. You know how it is, you don't post for a week and then the week turns into several and before you know it you are a DEAD BEAT BLOGGER, and as time passes, the will to come back to your blog lessens, and the excuses for not posting mount and mount.

You actually even go to your blog site, open up the post window......and well the phone rings, you would rather clip your toe nails, pick your nose, pull weeds, clean your toilet, pay bills,etc. You have Dead Beat Blogger syndrome, until the shame and guilt drives you to type anything,to make excuses for your tardy post.

So I will leave it to your imagination as to my actual excuses for not posting in over a month, except to say this........ PROCRASTINATION.... OVERWHELMED with my life and responsibilities, and dealing with the stresses of the so-called FINANCIAL TSUNAMI, etc.

I do have several accomplishments to report:

I finished the 'Everyone Knows Jacket'. I liked this project, the instructions were well written and the finished product fits well. I did not do the side dropped stitch pattern as I like a warm sweater in the winter. I did do the drop stitch pattern on the sleeves.

After finishing the sweater, I realized that it was not real smart to use noro kureopatra yarn for a drop sleeve pattern since the fibers tend to pull apart. My hope is after the first washing they will felt a bit, so this does not become a problem. Here are some photos:

I also finished my KIP 2008 knitting project which, was a checkerboard scarf. I like how it turned out, photos and pattern forthcoming. A great take along knitting project.

After the success of the the 'Everyone Knows Jacket', I decided to to finish up the Hooded Pullover #14 by Deborah Newton in the 2008 Vogue Magazine. I have made major headway,finished the back and the front.

I screwed up the front, I realized as I was just about to take it off the needles. I forgot to bind off for the neck opening. UGGGGGGGGGH! I started to frog.......and re-knit it according to the instructions. As I was frogging, I realized, I should have just steeked the neckline, it would have saved me re-knitting and would have been much faster. Oh well...a good tip for the next time this occurs. I must admit, I have never steeked as the idea of cutting my lovely knit stitches.....sends chills up my spine, but this would have been the most expedient fix for this error.

I have cast on the sleeves, I am doing both at the same time. All that is left after that is the hood. I am so happy with this project so far......the instructions are well written and clear....

This pattern is for an experienced knitter, who has experience with complex cable stitches.I prepared an exel spread sheet to keep all the pattern changes by row, which helps immensely in doing complex aran cable sweaters, where the number of pattern rows for each design varies.

I have this for the body of the sweater and will make one for the sleeves. This is especially helpful if you tend to put your knitting down for a period of time........as it helps you to know where you left off.

On the ulcer front, I am glad to report that the ulcer is cured. It took 3 months, but I am on the road to recovery.........with changed habits........and better emotional borders, as a result. I can not say it strongly enough, stress kills and people and things in your life who constantly produce stress, do have an effect. The time to dispose of the stress is before you get an ultra large bleeding ulcer..........it is just not worth it. Life is difficult enough without things and people who exacerbate negativity.

I am still awaiting biopsy, but the area now looks clean and the doc believes it was just ulceration from the ulcer. I am so happy to be off the medication, which worked but, has side effects that are not pleasant. I was on it for longer than normal due to the extremely large size of my ulcer.

Spring has come on faster than usual this year.......most of my trees have full leaves and have bloomed. I will miss my house, once it sells.......I love my gardens, but, have decided that this is just too much upkeep for one small chick. It has overwhelmed me....and I need smaller digs.

The ebaying is overwhelming me, too........I have so much to get sold before the end of this year. I have been an overconsumer, pack rat extraodinaire. I feel great everytime, I find good homes for my things.

March definitely roared in like a LION.......

it is the 14th...and it is still very cold here in Bucks County, PA. VERY!

We had two short days of warmer weather, and then back to the DEEP FREEZE, my heating costs were the highest ever in the last 16 years that I have lived in this house. I thought energy prices were supposed to have gone down with the recession, mine did not.

I have some knitted items entered in the New Hope Winery Art show this weekend. If you get a chance to stop by, please vote for me. Their website is www.newhopewinery.com They are doing a wine tasting today and they do have some really good wines and a great gift shop there.

On knitting progress, I am just about done with the Everyone Knows Jacket body. I am happy with the project so far and actually think it may make it to completion.

On Ulcer news, have to go back in for another endoscopy, they are not sure that it is healing properly....and saw some suspicious cells in the biopsy...so I am a bit worried. That won't be until the middle of April and I am sure worrying will not help my ulcer heal. Ever feel like the cards are stacked against you? I asked what happens if it doesn't heal...they have not decided yet. How are you supposed to find stress relief in the middle of the worst recession ever on record, when you are trying to sell your house and downsize your belongings and no one is buying them?

I wonder how many new ulcers have been formed in stomachs across the world? ...And if one more person tells me to stay calm, I think I will probably get 5 more ulcers!!!

The good news of the week as there seems to be SOME GOOD NEWS about the recession. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

I received the below call for art entries the other day, which I believe is a very worth cause for all artist....since it relates to FREEDOM, which is a concept so near and dear to most artist's minds. You might recall the book, " I never saw another butterfly" by Hana Volavkova, which is still available in paperback.

The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2012, for all to remember.

As of Summer 2008, we have already collected an estimated 400,000 butterflies.

Please facilitate the “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” activity and create as many handmade arts-and-crafts butterflies as possible. This project may be completed by all ages as individuals or groups.

Butterflies should be no larger than 8 inches by 10 inches.
Butterflies may be of any medium the artist chooses, but two-dimensional submissions are preferred.
Glitter should not be used.
Food products (cereal, macaroni, candy, marshmallows or other perishables) also should not be used.

Noro Yarn has ISSUES that can be repaired.......

If you like noro yarns and use them, then you know they have ISSUES.......The photos are of the Noro Kureopatra yarn that I am using for the 'Everyone Knows' jacket.

Here is a quick fix for solving White spots: Places where the dye did not take to the yarn. This is especially annoying in a dark dye lot.See first image....Before repair.

Use a permanent marker pen or a fabric dye pen, in a color that blends with your dye lot to color in the white spaces. See second image...After repair.

I used purple to cover up the white spots in my 'everyone knows cardigan.

You can do this before you knit the yarn....or a bit faster after it is knitted. You can use several colors or use one. I like to use the large sharper marker, which I have in several colors and lightly brush over the white spots after they are knitted, until I get the depth of color that I am searching.

Fix Two: unspun roving sections:

lightly dampen the area with water or saliva....and roll back and forth in the palms of your hands until the fibers adhere to themselves. The yarn will now not pull apart as you knit.

Winter is officially on my nerves.........

this morning.......

I am tired of being freezing cold. Tired of HUGE heating bills. Tired of wearing boots and heavy coats. Tired of putting doggie booties on the wee pups, whose paws freeze otherwise.
Tired of cleaning the ashes out of the fireplace. Tired of bleak colors and only textures for interest in the landscape...

I NEED A VACATION TO SOMEWHERE VERY WARMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! NOWWWWWWW! Can someone lend me their place in St. Barts or other cushy carribean resort?

Up early to take out the trash, it is frigid cold here, 16 degrees Farenheit.

Had a good week trading in the market and made progress on my "everyone knows" jacket. 11 1/2" completed. I am not doing the bind off holey stitch thing, which is totally not suitable to the winter climate here in pennsylvania. So far, I say, kudos to the designers 'Weaverknits' for a well written and EDITED pattern. Thank you, you make knitting a pleasure.

It's Snowing in Bucks County.....

it is beautiful. I like big wet snowflakes....especially when I can watch them from my warm office's window.

I bought a new computer, with a large monitor, it was a mistake. Not the large monitor, the NEW.....part. My Ulcer is acting up, being techno deficient as I am....what was I thinking?

My computer was so old 5 years, that I had forgotten what a hassle it was getting a new computer up and running with all the colors, sounds, themes, software, data on your new computer.

For some reason on day 2, I have NO SOUND......checked all the sound drivers, settings, etc...No enlightenment. So will be on the phone with HP, shortly. My scanner or webcam do not work with windows vista.....so will keep my other computer functioning.

It was on its last legs, it kept crashing. It crashes when I try to copy certain info, it crashes if I look at it the wrong way......who knows why, so, I gave up on it..... I miss windows XP....it was so easy.

Vista, is ridiculous, it makes you confirm everything that you do....and then some. Wish I could have XP on this new computer, I would be in heaven.

I love this large wide screen. It is great........and the wireless keyboard and mouse. I hated that mouse wire, it was always getting stuck on something, at the most inoportune moments.

I have learned all sorts of new techno stuff. I had to buy a wireless router to use the other computer and a USB wireless adapter for it. I just installed the adapter, I survived.

Technology stresses me out, it seems to have gotten overly complicated....to the point if you do not have access to a teenager or someone in their 20's....YOU ARE SCREWED!!!

I also bought a thinga majiggy....called a flash drive, as I was advised it was easier to use than the large stack of CD's I was about to purchase to transfer data from old computer to new. Who knew???? I have not gotten the courage yet to try it.......will do that after this post as well.

I knit two rows on this after every techno belch......yes, my sticks and string are keeping me somewhat sane.....during this process....I crave them...I need them for a reality check....knitting is so simple compared to technology.....it affords instant gratification with each stitch. I can touch it, it makes sense, it grounds me.

I cast on the "everyone knows" sweater from knitty- winter 2008, designed by Weaverknits. I am skipping the bind off drop stitch thing. I love the shape of this simple sweater without it. I am using noro kureopatra yarn. I like the way it is turning out so far. I have 7 " done so far.

No UFO progress to report.......too busy with computers and ebay these days and thought maybe a new knitting project would get me moving on the UFO's again as well.

Oh, I almost forgot, UFO BOYFRIEND, heard about my stomach ulcer and showed up with 2 dozen red roses and a beautiful card... 2 weeks later, of course!!!....what IS UP WITH THAT?

He was sweet...you just never know what that guy will come up with....anyway, it was the least he could do, because he is 50% responsible for the stomach ulcer....at minimum and the ex hubby gets credit for the other half.....

Gotta run, to click and ship for ebay, then talk to HP about the sound problem.....and then comcast, I am sure to install the wireless router.....the acid in my stomach is churning just thinking about those trunk lines......but, I will work on the "everyone knows" sweater, and be thinking every one knows technology sucks......and knitting doesn't!!!! ;-)

this is my life, post ulcer diagnosis.....LOL!

JELLO......

I have tried the pineapple, sparkling grape, cherry, strawberry...and what I realize is jello is like eating air.......flavorful.....but, empty calories...something to stick in your mouth, when you wish you could be eating eggs and bacon......or roast beef.....a wendy's baconator........UGGGGGGGGH!

and I realized my jello is mushy...not firm, when ex-hubby brought me jello snack packs the other day....that JELLO has substance....mine is not FIRM. JELLO CRISIS!!!

What am I doing wrong?????

How am I going to survive this bland diet? Almost every food I love, is not on it. No tomatoes, no grapefruits, no bacon, no salt......NO SALT and pepper!!! No alcohol...no french fries....no seafood......NO BERRIES......JUST JELLO.....

Of course, I could be having peanut butter....but, there is unfortunately a salmonella issue at the moment!!!! and I am all out of peanut butter in my pantry.... This could not have come at a worst moment in time.

At least peanut butter and jelly would have gotten me through. How could every jar of peanut butter be contaminated? This seems proposterous to me!

OKAY...... I just took a look see......and found the advice I was given by several well meaning friends and family was not entirely based in fact....THERE IS HOPE!!!

Here is what I found out, dated January 23rd, 2009:

1. The FDA has confirmed that the sources of the outbreak of illnesses caused by Salmonella Typhimurium are peanut butter and peanut paste produced by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) at its Blakely, Georgia processing plant.

2. None of PCA's products are directly sold to consumers.

3. While investigating,the FDA determined that PCA's peanut products were distributed to more than 70 consignee firms, for use as an ingredient in hundreds of different products, such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream.

4. FDA has created a searchable database for these consignee products, which can be found HERE.

5. The identification of products subject to recall is continuing and this list is updated frequently.

6.Major national brands of jarred peanut butter found in grocery stores are not affected by the PCA recall.

7. King Nut peanut butter is also contaminated.

8. The latest info on the outbreak can be found HERE.

YIPPEEEEEEEEE!!! I am betting on Crazy Richard's Natural Peanut Butter....I bet it is okay...so there is HOPE for me getting through this ulcer diet. I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY.

It pays to do research....I really thought it odd every peanut butter was suddenly contaminated.....it seemed totally ridiculous to me...and it was.

STOMACH ULCERS.........et al.........

Well, I have been predicting its arrival for this past year.......and IT SHOWED UP!

I knew it that morning (1/20), when I was walking around Michael's looking for supplies...it sort of felt like that movie ALIENS....something blew out the front and the back. I came home, threw up a few times.....but, still packed up my ebay sales, went to the post office......waited in a long line...

Almost threw up all over my favorite post office worker....not sure how I drove home, but made it....just in time for another session of you know what....
and all night long........every hour on the hour...I could not even keep water down!

Did I go to the hospital, then? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I felt I was too sick to go to the hospital......LOL!!!

After tossing my cookies, so to speak for a day and a half relentlessly....I finally let myself be persuaded to go to the emergency ward (1/21)....what can I say, I WAS WEAK AND DELIRIOUS!!! I hate doctors, I hate hospitals even more.

I went and just in the nick of time! My potassium had reached dangerously low levels, to the point I was admitted for possible cardiac arrest. I agreed to stay till 7am the following morning, only because MY EX HUSBAND,refused to drive me home. Yes, he actually took me to the hospital.......can you believe it?

They ultrasounded me, EKGeed me, CatScanned me...and decided I also had an enlarged pancreas....wishful thinking. I kept telling them I THOUGHT I HAD AN ULCER...but, they were not listening.

Your pancreas does get enlarged after that much vomiting......I mean it is pretty tough on the digestive system......

Later that morning the gastroenterologist, persuaded me to do an endoscopy....I agreed since, he felt I had a possible ulcer per his review and basically bagged the pancreatis diagnosis of the rest of the medical dweebs.

It seems I have a stomach ulcer the size of a silver dollar, which is larger than average. Is that a surprise considering what my life has been for the past 7 years divorcing the ex.......trying to get the house under control, find a full time JOB, be fully self supporting, and deal with dating in the milenium........HELLO....

I am not surprised. UFO boyfriend, said it is my lifestyle....yes, he still is trying to get back in my good graces....but, just between you all and I...he is part and parcel of a big chunk of the acid that tore into my gut and I told him so! Along with the EX.......who has never been so nice to me, even when we were honeymooning!!! LOL! So what does this all say, MEAN?

1. Ex's can redeem themselves......perhaps???? Honestly, the jury is still out on this one....

2. UFO boyfriends...will always be that...UFO's.

3. The lifestyle changes that need to be made in my life, are knowing when to hold em and when to fold em and walk away, from difficult and disruptive people, influences, projects....because, they can KILL you.

4. I feel a new affinity towards JELLO.

5. I have no idea how I am going to be able to stay on a bland diet....NO SPICES...I am the CHILI POWDER QUEEN!

6. NO ALCOHOL til the ulcer heals....none, no wine, no beer, no martinis...

7. I need to learn to take on less stress from my environment.....

8. I think morning and evening meditation is in order........

9. I am sick of chicken consomme.

10. I think when I stopped knitting, the stomach acid took over....I need to knit more to keep my sanity and the stomach acid at bay!!!!!

Oh and the really biggie, not listed above, is I NEED TO REALLY QUIT SMOKING....not cut down.......so it is the PATCH for me, FEBRUARY 1st. NO EXCUSES.....smoking contributes to ulcers.

I need to go back to bed and rest. I am sore from this bout with death and that endoscopy destroyed my throat, my mouth....and bruised my face...not sure why that happened.

It's January 2009........

and I am having a hard time remembering to write 2009.....already have a mental block on this year.......why?

Only a knitting disaster to report........the perennial UFO cables and lace cardigan from 2004 that was so close to completion.............finished the sleeves, found a problem with the back, ripped out to armholes............while ripping out, found more errors all the way down near the bottom so had to rip out the entire back........

and then just after I finished that, found out Beluga, the fruitcake puppy.......decided in the interim to chew on the pinned sleeves stitch holder.......it is pretty mangled......so one sleeve now, also has to be fixed.

NOOOOOOO.....I did not kill her, but I will admit I considered it for at least a full second. Needless to say, she spent the rest of the evening in puppy jail.......for her own safety!!!

This sweater is ILL-FATED....no matter how you look at it....still not done after 5 years...

Should there be a time limit, when a UFO..........should be frogged?

Look how she mangled that metal stitch holder....which, made me wonder where was I when she was working on that.

And just the day before, she ended up in puppy jail.......for having part of a bamboo needle in her mouth...........it took a few days, but I found the other parts.........and it was the clapotis scarf that she attacked......so that warranted another day in puppy jail, for her.

My concern is this puppy does not seem to respect my fiber projects and in particular my fiber tools!!!

.......or is it she just knows which, projects are permanent UFO's........and is helping me out?

I was not happy with the yarn used in my Clapotis Scarf.....it was verging on becoming a UFO......but, how did she know? and was that an excuse to destroy a perfectly good set of needles? LOL!!!

So this is how my year began..........

wishing all my readers their deepest desires found in the NEW YEAR.....and piles of UFO knitting projects becoming FO garments and accessories!

This was a tough year, and unusual year for most if NOT ALL.......the market crashing, jobs lost, sky high gasoline prices to low gasoline prices.....lifestyles changed......and although difficult to fathom and even harder to come to grips with on a short term basis....I can't help but, believe with UPHEAVAL, comes CHANGE for the better. Trust in this....warm your hearts with what TRULY matters this New YEAR......LOVE. Love of family, LOVE of friends, Love just for Love sake!!!

Give a smile to that stranger in the street, they may need it more than you could ever know....it could be the best part of their day....and it will cost you nothing but, to exercise those sagging facial muscles. It is the gift, that can warm the world.........A SMILE!

Help someone that is struggling with their arms full, open a door for someone, thank the cashier clerk that has been on his/ her feet all day........give the bank teller a thank you........remember those that pass through your day, unknown. Shake their hand....wish them well.....make their day special....because they are there to make yours special.

So far they sent me 5 surveys: $5, $8, $5, $5, $5 = $28 in the last 24 hours...and I just started and that was before I filled out my complete profile, which they paid me an additional $2 for doing.

I need to earn money anyway that I can these days..... I know that with all the financial mess these days, I am not alone in needing to find alternate means of support.

I hope this helps others as well. If you know someone out of work that needs some real income without having to shell out money, in order to obtain the online info....send them this link or direct them to my blog. Most online make money deals, cost money upfront....and I have learned that they DO NOT WORK.....by actually signing up for a few of them. If someone is really employing you, they will not ask you to be paid to be employed!

It makes me crazy that people are using others misfortunes to get rich, by making them pay upfront fees to join these money making sites. They get paid by their clients and by the people they get to do the work for them. They take from both sides. This is PURE GREED!!!

All the mystery shopping sites are like that. You can not make a dime doing mystery shopping unless you own the company. It is only beneficial if you actually need those services, like an oil change or something that they reimburse you for purchasing. Or you were on your way to that location anyway. Otherwise, you will not make a profit. I know I tried.

It just is not right. I am not saying you can pay the mortgage with this deal, but, this will help with the groceries or perhaps give you money to buy some gifts...or you can use this money to make charity gifts that help others eat and give those that are homeless shelter, with NO COST OF MEMBERSHIP or to You, that I have personally seen yet.

Let me know if you try it out....and do not agree with my assessment so far.

IT'S FINISHED..................

the lace wrap cardigan from HELL! Which I renamed the UNWRAPPED lace cardigan, since I modified it majorly!!!

I was not happy with the fit, as a wrap cardigan...my boobs were too exposed, plus it was too long waisted for me. So it is now a lace up v-neck sweater that has a loose empire waist baby doll look in the front and fitted in the back.

I had it on today and actually DO like it now. I used a crocheted scallop edging on the neck edge and larger treble stitch crocheted scallop edging on the bottom.

I wove the silk binding ribbon through the bottom edging and through the neck edge scallops. I found the ribbon in my stash which, matched perfectly!!!

Other modifications include, only two stitches used on the body, instead of three. I changed pattern E because I did not like the purl background with all the other knit background stitches. I used the pattern stitch for the middle part of the sleeves for a longer row repeat than suggested and reordered the patterns selected for each sleeve.

I am so happy that this turned into a wearable garment, with all the angst I went through knitting it. Someone did finally post a finished garment on ravelry...and it looks great. She knitted a small and did not have all the problems with the pattern that I did. On the other hand it could have been all the errata I worked out with LISA from vogue before hand. Thank you lisa, for your assistance.
I started the #14 Hooded Pullover in Vogue Winter 2008/2007 by deborah newtown, which is turning out great. No problems so far. Thank you DEBORAH NEWTON for writing a great pattern.

I am using this fabulous yarn Silwood Sensations 50% superfine kid, 25% alpaca, 25 % wool from new zealand. I adore this yarn. If you can find it, buy it!!! Knitting with it is like heaven!!!!

I have about 9 inches done on the body now. I made a stitch pattern chart on excel for the body stitch pattern changes.

If you would like a copy, leave me a message in my blog comments with your email and I will be happy to send it to you. It helps tremendously.

I modified the pattern for a smaller size. I cast on only 118 stitches and hoping to get a 39" bust. The small was incredibly large. I am also using # 8 needles throughout the project....which is working well. I can't wait to finish this one up, it is a real pleasure to knit.

I also finally finished the knitting on the lace cable cardigan from 2004...a former UFO, that is actually near completion. Just need to sew it up and knit the button band and it will be officially removed from the UFO heap. I made a chart for the sleeves which, really helps. If interested...leave comment on my blog.

Part #5 - #17 Vogue Knitting Holiday 2008 - Lace Cardigan

Yesterday morning, following the first Snow storm to hit Pennsylvania, I was greeted by this view from my deck.

Two huge limbs literally were almost sliced off my Bradford Pear tree. Ugggh! I turned around and went back for another bolt of Java.

and decided, that it was best to walk the dogs in the front yard. I had things to do...and just could not face the mess in the backyard.

And that was just the beginning. I want to say here, the coffee was one of the highlights of my day.

I decided to trade some stock, got stuck in a position, and literally willed it to finally go back up........and just as I hit my profit point, and go to click the sell button..........my computer seems to have no internet connection....

I turned it off and on, but, no help. I am freaking. go to call the broker, and NO PHONE either...LOL! It is 3:30p and the market is closing....and I WANT OUT OF MY POSITION BEFORE it is closed.

I finally get a broker on the phone that wants to lecture me......while he does the stock plummets 35 cents.......yes, out of the profit, I sell and wake up this morning...to find the stock opened at ...15.50 about $2. 35 higher than what I sold at......Was fate trying to tell me something ....?

With the tree, I knew what to do.....go out the front door....and forget about it, enjoy the morning...with the stock I forced the issue........and lost out big time......$2, 350. to be exact.

Money I could have used....big time! Lessons surround us every day...if we learn to accept ....as opposed to forcing our will over our world.

In any case, next was comcast.........to reset the cable modem.......move the table to stand on a chair.........and what is there? A DEAD BABY MOUSEY!....too frazzled by that time to scream..and hey who was gonna hear me........the cable tech guy in DELAWARE...LOL! Grabbed the pooper scooper...great tip....and got rid of the mouse....

fixed phone and internet. It is now 5:30p, should be in the shower getting ready for the knitting guild meeting........outside, trying to figure out how to make a pathway through the giant limbs for the dogs and I to walk in the back yard....till 7:30P. No guild meeting....worked on the nemisis, left sleeve..........half way done after frogging the entire sleeve. Have the fronts and backs sewed together and the right sleeve is sewn together. I am nearing completion of this
Lace Cardigan from HELL! Hopefully, by tonight....it will be off the needles and awaiting finishing touches.

I am thinking of using a crochet lace border for the front edges and bottom edges. I am also seriously contemplating using satin ribbon.......for the ties. I do not like the I-cord ties....just not pretty enough for the sweater. If I finish the sleeve this evening. I will post the photos in a separate blog post.

Anyway, my day today was much better, made a nice profit in the market, and knit when I grew tense. Now just have to figure what to do with the mess outside.......

Here is a great Xmas gift to buy for family and friends......I found this today when I was shopping around. What a fabulous idea.....with the high cost of razor blades today......

Uggggh....there is a mistake in this sleeve, that I just noticed while blocking it........

DO you see it? The Line in thelower third of Chart D of the sleeve...which, is most of the knitting that I did on the sleeve TODAYYYYYYY!

Do I hear FROGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG?

This sweater is my nemesis, it has a life of its own........it hates me, it is torturing me.....LOL! I actually looked at it...for 10 minutes, then got a glass of scotch...I figured I needed something extra strong to take this in...hoping that a couple of sips, might make it look better. It did not work.

This means the Lace Cardigan from Hell, is going to have to be ripped back and instead of doing ebay this evening, I intend on finishing this sleeve, if I have to stay up all night to finish this up. UGGGGGGGH!

Part #4 - #17 Vogue Knitting Holiday 2008 - Lace Cardigan

Well....I am just finishing the last Sleeve. The left sleeve. I got to the cap and there were more errors in the instructions. I am finished writing Vogue. They should pay me for tech editing this pattern. Someone should.

Here goes.

The right sleeve says Bind off 4 or 5 stitches twice, then dec 1 st each side on next row, **then every other row 5 times.** 30 sts left size small

the left sleeve says the same.........except ....from ** then every other row 4 times." 28 sts size small. ( my math gets me to 32 sts left size small.....but, hey what do I know, I am unemployed....)

Don't even ask me who does their math for them........they are hopeless. I would think that after I wrote so many comments to Vogue, someone would have gone through the entire pattern with a fine tooth comb. Obviously, NOT!!!

and I decided I am not working for them for free. So this error notice is only found here.

I am going to use the right sleeve decreases as written for the left sleeve. It looks good and like it will fit. The right sleeve is blocked and looks good. I am praying to the knitting gods, that this sews up with my adjustments and is wearable after all this angst.

The funny part about this project, is I started it as the stock market began crashing, for some stress relief and none was to be found. This project has been sheer hell!!! Just hope it was worth it. I do like the yarn, it is fabulous and highly recommend it.

The POOL IS CLOSED............

one day later. What a mess, the wind was blowing crazy today. It was cold and damp. The pool was covered in leaves, it took an hour to remove them and just as I finished, the guys arrived and more wind did too. It took three hours to finish it up and get it covered.

YIPPEE!!!

No more pulling leaves out of the pool for the rest of 2008!

Summer is officially over, everything has been put away for next year....it always leaves me a bit sad....as I know, it is also means we are now heading into the final days of the downward spiral into darkness. The toughest time of year for me getting through the shorter days with short sunlight hours.

Until the 21st of December, the next 60 or so days are brutal.....til Winter Solstice begins....because from there, each and every day we are one day closer to springtime....and knowing that gets me through the cold but, ever lighter days of the winter months.

Time to light the fires in the fireplaces and sit down and knit, knit and knit some more......

Part #3- # 17 Vogue Holiday 2008 - Lace Wrap Cardigan

The leaves are falling more heavily in Bucks County now...and it is growing too cold in the evenings for open windows. Saturday I actually used my electric blanket and got out the winter PJ's. It is coming.

Friday I spent the day one with my leave vaccuum. I can not say enough...about this tool. It is my favorite. Of course, just my luck as I got the backyard finally leave free...and bit of a storm blew in. One hour later, it looked as if I had not done anything.

Okay the water is a bit green....Okay very green...It needed chemicals.....it got them. In fact going out now to put more in there. It is very important to close the pool with NO ALGAE evidence or you will have a scummy pond next spring.

The pool is closing tomorrow......can't wait till they arrive....pulling the leaves out every morning is becoming a major chore as well. One more morning left. Yippee!

I love to keep it open as long as possible, for the waterfall. It is way too cold to swim now....and budget can not afford to heat the pool during these very, very cool fall evenings. So I don't.

Made some progress on the Lace Wrap Cardigan from Hell.....I finished the right sleeve and it is blocking. Sorry no photos yet. Started the left sleeve today. I changed the patterns used on the right sleeve to…. A, C, B.

I heard from lisa at vogue….here is another change they made from my reported errors:

The right front says use patterns D, B and E. The photo shows Patterns D, A and E were used.

While completing the right sleeve, I found another re my earlier comments about chart C, being wrong, and now understand why I read Chart C wrong....again consistency, magazine editors, PLEASE:

Chart B says "SK2P"- BUT MEANS = you pass over a k2tog.

and Chart C says "sl1 knitwise, k2, psso the k2 " = in this chart, you pass over a K2.

Personally, I do not see in the info provided, the difference lisa claims I should have seen. DO YOU?

The meanings look the same to me, albeit Chart C's is written out….BUT ARE DIFFERENT. So i will write to her tonite…to ask her to note this somewhere on the vogue errata pages…I think Chart B should say: SK2togP to make this difference CLEAR!!!

She did Not agree…but asked her to write to teva about, my belief the shaping on the front decreases for the small should be modified like the extra small…….otherwise the bottom weight throws off the top and causes too much stretching in the front part of the armhole after blocking. The weight is just too much for the 12 stitches remaining. I have not heard back yet.

Here is what I wrote to Vogue:

Since, I last wrote.... I pulled the fronts and back off the blocking pins and pinned the seams...

First off my blocked pieces measured correctly. My gauge was PERFECT! It fits well if about 1 1/2 inches are taken off the two fronts.

If I shorten the front arm holes then the bust measurements work. This is lace, so it grows when it is weighted and it just so happens these particular stitches grow long more than wide, when they are weighted...

I hope you are following me.... we are now going from a garment lying flat to one that IS HANGING ON A BODY.....it's principles will change.

The interesting thing is that the bottom below the narrow twelve stitch top part........keeps perfect gauge after pinning and so did the back... and when hanging on my body or a hangar.

What I think is going on with this design:

Is when it is assembled...NOT LYING FLAT...but on a body..... the weight of the front bottoms are too heavy for that twelve stitch wide upper armhole fabric section and because these particular stitch patterns have a propensity to elongated with weight....and this would happen more with narrow fabric than wider fabric....hope you are following me.

IN THIS SIZE ( small )...this PATTERN does NOT execute well from drawingboard to actual functioning hanging on a body garment.

....The front bottom pulls too heavily on the front armholes elongating them more than the back does to that part of the armhole.....capische?

So to be a good design....it either needs wider fabric in that upper armhole area...to prevent the more intensive stretching ( which will result if the front neck decreases are less steep, ie. not every other row )....or the armhole rise needs to have less height for the fronts...to compensate.

I just ripped out an 1 1/2" of both fronts....and it works...plus I hung it on hangar to and with the adjustment...it creates the perfect measurements.

I have been knitting since I was 4 years old......incessantly...for 47 1/2 years...at a certain point
you can tell when a pattern will not execute well, as you knit it. I knew there was going to be a problem with the front armholes....due to those 12 stitches from 63 stitches.

From 12 stitches at the bottom to 63 at the top...NO PROBLEM, weight is not an issue....but reversed..it is too much weight hanging from those 12 stitches...IN ANY WOOL YARN, which will stretch. That is why I suggested the decreases were too steep for the small and should be changed as teva, did do, with the extra small size. talk to teva....

You won't have a problem with the larger sizes....the weight is more evenly distributed....because
there are more width stitches left on the upper armhole........in proportion to the weight at the bottom.

Note this is without the sleeves attached and IT IS POSSIBLE that the sleeve seam might compensate and stabilize the armhole stretching but, probably NOT ENOUGH and WILL still result in a problem on the outer bottom.

I started left sleeve tonight and modified pattern Chart E, as follows:

I just did not like the pattern, which is the only purl pattern, in the group.

I reversed it…so I knit where you are supposed purl and my bobbles are purled instead knitted.
(p1, yo p1, next row K3, next row p3 tog : to make bobble on knitted background.)

I like it much better with the rest of the sweater. I am hoping to finish this sweater by the end of the week. I am also thinking of adding a crochet border to the bottom and neck edges....rather than leaving it plain. But, will decide this after I sew it together.

I can not wait to finish this project....because, it has been so frustrating... it is my sheer willpower that is keeping it off the UFO heap.... I am totally focused and praying to the knitting gods, for no life interruptions before the knitting is complete........or else...I just know it will be a UFO for life!!! LOL!

No ebay additions so far this week, because of this Cardigan. Hopefully, I will have the chance to post some later.

Okay, I'll admit it.......I have some humble pie to eat....from yesterday's post. The good news is I was not entirely wrong. I got a response from vogue knitting today. Here it is from Lisa Buccellao @ Vogue Knitting:
"There is an error in the RS/WS instructions, beginning with Chart B on the Back. The corrections are copied below:

OOOPS.....and big double OOOPSSSSSSSSS...

I stand corrected. While that symbol looks like a k3 together symbol........IT IS NOT! When I went back to look at it and carefully read it, IT DID SAY, Knit 2.....NOT KNIT TWO TOGETHER.

Turns out I was right about the WS/ RS problem ......even though I finally decided that was my error not Vogue's.... and was wrong about the Chart C error. LOL!!!

I am blaming it all on the banking crisis....and the fact my 2007 tax return is due tomorrow and I have not started to fill out the form! I ran out of extension time! LOL!!! I do this every year...my inner child does not like to do taxes....and there is just no reasoning with her.

I also wrote to Lisa, about the following other questionable issues with this pattern:

1. The right front says use patterns D, B and E. The photo shows Patterns D, A and E were used.

2. The armhole decreases for the fronts....and the back are different. Is this intentional or an error?

For the small size, I did 7 additional decreases to end up with the 12 stitches. 8 times would give me 11 stitches.

3. I also questioned the decreases at the neck edge, which I am concerned are too steep. In the extra small they suggest the last 8 decreases should be done every 4th row instead of every row.

I will await Lisa's response before, I post the solution here.

I did finish the back and the two fronts and decided to block the pieces. I am concerned that the decreases on the front neck edges are so steep they will not even cover my boobs and I would hardly say I am overly endowed!

I am fairly certain both back and front will need to be frogged and started over. Do you believe with all this, I had the guts to start a sleeve, without lisa's further response?I am definitely frogging my Chart C, it is too lacey against the other stitches used.

And another piece of good news out of all this mess.......is that I do like the lace pattern created with my corrected Chart C as described in the October 13th post.......I think I will use it to design a scarf or sweater. It really looks great blocked. very interesting. I wonder if I created a new stitch pattern....is that possible? Or does this have a name?

Here are my further modifications for the sleeves. I just do not like them as they are shown in the photo....so I am using these patterns. For the right sleeve, I am using Chart A first, then C, which I do not have a photo...because I did not read the chart properly, and panicked prematurely. Did I mention that I hate knitting charts? LOL!

and then possibly Chart B.

For the left sleeve, either Chart D or C, then E, A. It differs slightly from their photo. I just think pattern stitch E is too solid next to pattern stitch D. I do not like the look.

Sorry, about the not too good photos, but the best I can do in my blocking room which, does not have good lighting. Also please excuse my foot....I should have at least been wearing a nice pair of handknit socks......LOL!!!

I am determined to finish this sweater, for some reason unbeknowst to me....even though it is a prime candidate for the UFO heap! Wish me luck. Only the left front is dry, the other two parts are still damp. I am sure the armholes are way to deep on the fronts and are going to require frogging. And I am definitely going to frog My Chart C and Do Chart C correctly, now that Lisa, was kind enough to point out my inability to read knitting charts correctly.

Oh and that is another point. These charts are read all rows, left to right. Not left to right, right to left as knitting for dummies suggests. Honestly, there needs to be some standardization of symbols used and method for reading these knitting charts if they are to be useful.

I am going to rename this pattern on ravelry Lace Wrap Cardigan from Hell!

Vogue Knitting Holiday 2008- #17 Lace Wrap Cardigan

I could not resist, casting on for the Lace Wrap Cardigan from the new Vogue Knitting Magazine, Holiday 2008, #17 Lace Wrap Cardigan by Teva Durham.

The photo is of the back in progress. It is now finished. Not without problems.

First I made a mistake, which is NOW A MODIFICATION, because I like it better. I have only one garter rib between pattern changes instead of the two ribs.

Between Chart A and B: the pattern says end at row 11 of Chart A, then K 3 rows. I ended with row 12 and knit 2 rows, then started with row 2 of Chart B as instructed.

Because of the error above, when I got to the transition between Chart B and C, I also knit 2 rows instead of the three required. I like the one garter rib instead of the two shown in the pattern.

The Chart C in the magazine appears to be wrong, there is an error. If you follow it you will get a triangle instead of the correct back shaping. It also does not look like the photo which, is a cable pattern instead of a lace pattern.

Here is my fix, that I used to keep from decreasing the stitches....and it gives you a nice lace pattern:

It should be row 2: YO, k, YO, k3
and Row 4 should be: K3, YO, k, YO.

I still have not heard back from vogue as to what the correct chart should read. I am the first doing this pattern on ravelry so there is no other place to find this errata at the present time. I did post to ravelry in the editors notes.

Or it is possible that the Chart symbols are not correct. If you want the cable pattern, then you could do this:

Row 1: 3 stitch cable ( put one stitch on cable needle hold to front, knit 2, then knit the stitch off cable holder repeat around
Rows 2-4 knit the knits and purl the purls.
Repeat for pattern.

I have not tried this, but my guess is this was the designers intention looking at the photo. LOL!

I finished the back and started the left front and used my chart C. Sorry no photo yet. I see that the pattern ALSO, differs from the photo for both the left front and the right front. Does anyone edit these patterns? Of course, the back is not shown, or I might have used my second choice for correcting Chart C. LOL!

This is the first Teva Durham pattern I am knitting and so far, way too many errors for my liking. Not sure if this is the norm with her patterns, is it????? When I use a pattern, I do not want to think so hard....otherwise, I would design my own sweater.

Anyway, I knit the left front like the pattern, which instructs you to use the same patterns as you used on the back, which includes my first corrected Chart C. However the photo shows the last pattern on the left front is from a Chart that is NOT INCLUDED IN THE MAGAZINE!!!! LOL! It is also used on both sleeves. Have not decided on how to handle this.

Their Chart C, does not include anything replicating a Cable pattern, it has a K3 together decrease on Rows 1 and 3....NOT EVEN CLOSE VOGUE MAGAZINE! ....not even close to the photo.

You might remember that this is the same issue from the other lace cardigan I started in 2004 which rendered it to my UFO pile....and I am just resurrecting. sleeves are almost done. Painful to follow the chart with the cap decreases. ......both cardigans instructions and photos differ!!!

Finished the left side yesterday and cast on the right front. Here I am having problems and have frogged twice already because no row counts are given for the sections.

So here goes, to match the left front, I used 36 rows or 9 pattern repeats of Chart D. It worked. If you measure like I did, plan on frogging....your stitch count after the armhole decrease will not be correct.

Then the pattern tells you the next section should be Chart B...but the photograph uses Chart A.

I am using Chart A. So after the 2nd frog to rip out the bottom...I am close to the armhole bind off. Yippee! Hopefully my stitch count will now work. What a mess.

The worst part, is this is a fast knit. I started friday afternoon about 3pm and went out that evening. I would be done the right front if the directions were better and possibly done one sleeve.

I am using cynthia helene superwash merino, which is very nice yarn. I am happy with it as a replacement yarn. gauge is good.

Lesson learned, let someone else knit the patterns first and find their corrections on ravelry. I have no idea what a mess that debbie bliss cable jacket, silver belle would have been without the help I got from ravelry.

Want to finish this, so I am going back to knitting....and figuring out the pattern as I go along. Just hope it fits after all this. I think this pattern runs small, so consider that also if you decide to knit it.

Yarn gauge, Wraps per Inch, Yarn substitution, etc...

always make for a hot topic. Especially when you enjoy spinning your own yarns, which I do enjoy when time allows me. So do you spin your yarn for the pattern or adapt a pattern to the yarn you spun? Decisions, decisions....

If you have spun yarn without a project in mind, then the best way to find a project is to determine the wraps per inch. You do this by carefully wrapping the yarn around a ruler making sure the yarn does not overlap and counting the number of wraps that make up an inch.

It is important not to wrap the yarn to tightly or too losely. You can also buy a "Wraps per inch tool" or Yarn Gauge Tool , almost any spinning wheel manufacturer sells them. Mine is from schacht or it was, since I have no idea where is disappeared to...or my spinning hook.....

I found this guide to yarn classifications while reading knitting daily today (if you are not already a subscriber this is a great free newsletter - join up! ), which they credit from their great magazine spin off........you can order a subscription to this magazine if you have interest from the knitting daily site. Liz Gipson wrote a great article about this subject in todays edition to knitting daily. She also mentioned that is a gauge....and is not standard, which I have found to be true. You can find info like this all over the net and in the back of your knitting or crochet magazines....or books....and in a spinning book that you own or buy.

So after you use the table above, to select your needles....knit a gauge swatch and choose the needle that gives you the drape of knitted fabric that feels best for the project you have in mind.

You can also use the table to figure out what type of project your yarn would be best suited.

Lately when I am spinning a plain yarn, I tend to make fine singles. I make up the skeins....and if I want a thicker yarn later I can always go back and ply the singles together.

Spinning your own yarn seems to be really becoming more popular, which I think is great. It is one of the most relaxing activities to participate in....and if you have never tried it, think about buying one of the many spindles out there to try your hand at this art. It is not a big investment and even if you do not want to do it ever again.....it will change the way you look at yarn, when you know how it is made.

Wisdom and creativity..........

The general population's belief on how to gain wisdom...and mine may differ.

Here are my thoughts on signs of wisdom:

- knowing you don't know.......and finding your balance anyway... Is an absolute sign of wisdom!

- realizing you are standing in front of a billboard...and are not reading the sign.

- life is like water.........it flows, when it meets resistance...it dances, spins and swirls...those are the whirlpools and eddys of our lives....a time to seize for reflection, time to comtemplate, instead of feeling trapped and rebellious,...a time to change patterns, move to a different rhythm.......until we move on....for we have no choice eventually, except to move with the current.

It is in those eddys and whirlpools that our creativity originates..........and wisdom can be found. Though those struggles may seem mighty....they are the silver linings....that make our clouds cool!

Rushing past them quickly, is a mistake!!!!! Though that opportunity may seem as a gift.

Tutorial for I-Cord Bind-OFF with PHOTOS...

This is my version of the easy way to do an I-Cord Bind OFF edging as illustrated from the felted bag I just completed see this post. You will need a gauge swatch to work this tutorial and 2 additional DP(Double Point) needles in the same size as your working needles for your gauge swatch. In the pocket below, my live stitches are on a circular needle.

I am using a very bulky yarn and large needles size 13, which makes this tutorial really easy to follow, but YOU can use any size needles and yarn that you prefer.

TUTORIAL- I- CORD BINDOFF

STEP 1: With your regular needles prepare a swatch. You can use any size needles and yarn that you wish. Make sure you have two DP needles to match your pocket or swatch needle.

I would cast on 15 to 20 stitches and then work an equal number of rows. You are now ready to begin this tutorial

STEP 2: Cast on three additional stitches for the I-Cord Bind off. Note: you may cast on any amount of stitches you desire, the more stitches the larger/ thicker the I-Cord will be.

Insert right needle, through last two stitches on left needle.........wrap yarn around right needle and....

STEP 3: Pull up stitch (loop) with right needle as shown in the photo below.

STEP 4: Twist the stitch (loop) you just pulled through and transfer it from your right needle to the left needle. One cast on stitch made.

STEP 5: Insert your right needle Front to Back between stitch just made and last stitch on left needle. Pull the loop up through the original two stitches.

Twist right needle clockwise and place new stitch on left needle. It will look like the photograph in step 6 below, after you have cast on the 3 required stitches. Note: your I-cord can be as big as you choose, add as many stitches as you require.

STEP 6: Repeat this procedure until there are three new stitches on the left needle...as shown in the photo to the below.

STEP 7: Pick up and put these last three stitches and put them on your DP needle.

STEP 8: Knit the first two stitches on your DP needle using the other DP needle

as your right hand needle.

STEP 9: Insert DP needle through BACK loop of last Stitch on DP needle and through the BACK loop of the first stitch on Pocket needle - Knit these two stitches together.

Slide pocket stitch carefully off its needle then the other stitch off its needle. You should have 3 stitches on your right DP needle. You have created one bound off I- cord pocket stitch.

STEP 10: You have 3 stitches on the DP needle now and one less on the pocket needle. See photo below.

STEP 11: Now pull working yarn behind the stitches as shown below......and then.....

STEP 12: Slide Stitches from one end of the DP needle (top photo) to the other end of the needle, as shown in the bottom photo. Begin knitting next round.

STEP 13: Repeat step 8-12 until all pocket stitches are bound off.

STEP 14: To bind off last stitches, when the last stitch from pocket needle is bound off. Pull working yarn behind these stitches. Slide these stitches to the opposite end of the DP needle, now bind off each stitch. Secure the end thread but, sewing it through the stitches and then pull it through I-cord cylinder to hide the end. You are finished. See photo below of finished pocket with completed I-Cord edging.

I hope this tutorial helps you with your next I-Cord bind off.

It was a total techno nightmare preparing this. Gottal run I am 30 minutes late to my stitch n'bitch meeting....

They're backkkkkkkk!!!! Fallen LEAVES!

With a vengeance. Where have I been?....ONE WITH MY LEAF VACUUM!!!

How do I love that lawn and garden tool....It is my best pal! I pray for him every day....that he does not die on me, before the end of November....I love him....I even decided to name him. VIRGIL...the leaf vacuum...I would kiss him but, absolutely positively...YUCKKKKKK!

He is one of the best men that I have known.

Without him, I would never have time to knit in the fall....all I would be doing is raking and raking and more raking. The best part is he makes mulch to put around my trees. Leave mulch, is one of the best mulches to use in your garden.

Every morning,I have to remove leaves from the pool, leaves from the pool deck and leaves from the wooden deck. UGGGGGGHHHHH! All I have to say, is if you do not have one get one! Now!

Okay, and then there is my new best find.

...life without UFO boyfriend, DOES HAVE its benefits and may I emphasize.....PLENTY of benefits....but, I have to admit, he was great at trimming high bushes which, I just can't reach. Well today, while I was searching for solutions....since, I am deathly afraid of ladders and heights.I found this....YIPPEE!!!

Guess who ordered one, pronto!today...? MOI!!! how great is this...? You may want one too...what a great invention...and it is cordless. I guess, I just have to admit I am a girl that LOVESSSSSSSS, power tools! No more shredding the power cord with my hedge trimmer...which is a yearly occurence! Just burnt up another one last week.

Now that we got the lawn work out of the way let's talk about knitting. Finished the felted tote bag, finally. It is off the needles and just have to felt it. Made progress on the clapotis scarf, but not real happy with the yarn selection. Oh well, some poor soul will get it for a holiday gift. My sleeves for the cable and lace cardigan are still going, albeit slow. Hopefully, I will have time to focus this weekend, am binding off for the sleeve caps, finally. Then just have to sew it up.

and surprise, surprise, while finishing up the tote bag, I suddenly realized that I was knitting with big yarn and big needles and could take photos while I did it. So I did...and coming soon will be a pictutorial of an I-Cord bind-off. I hope to post that later this week.

sometimes in life it is best to shut your yapper! Silence is golden....blah, blah, blah!

Here are my thoughts of late, the less said the better. Summer is almost gone...and did I find the man of my dreams????....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Did I finish up my UFO's? NOOOOOOOOO!

So where did summer go? who knows, but it might be the last at my home. The last time I spend at my pool. So I am enjoying it like it will be my last time.

UFO has done himself in...FINALLY! I don't think he will ever be able to resurrect himself from this one.........all I will said in this regard is...what webs we create, when we first choose to deceive....will eventually bite us in the BUTT!

I am at work on two UFO's....a felted knitting tote and the cables and lace cardigan. I must admit the cables and lace cardigan got to me again, the pattern is intense...I am 3/4 of the way done the sleeves and just finishing to be done.

The good news, is I have not cast on any new projects...the Bad news, is not much knitting news to report.

I got bored and started to work on the felted tote bag. I finished the tote bag today and just started on the first of two I-Cords for the straps. This one should be done this week. It is a two-for...because, I am unloading a yarn that I bought in the late 80's in the midwest, which color was not becoming to me as a sweater...and I will be finishing one of my UFO's. Will post photos before I felt this baby.

NAIL TRIMMER FOR PETS........

Has trimming your pets nails, got you down. It has me. I was watching tv...the
other morning and saw this infomercial...and decided to try it out. It is great.

I go nuts trimming the dogs nails, I think I am more freaked out than them. I always worry about hitting the quick...when the blood spurts out. Especially with beluga because she has black nails and it is so hard to see the quick.

With vet costs as high as they are for dog or cat nail trimming...it is far too expensive to pay them to cut nails monthly.

I highly recommend this product after trying it.....this is a BIG tip for pet owners. It is such a great idea, I wish I thought of it.......

Ding, Dong.....the CRAZED WOODPECKER is.......

DEAD!!!!

and I did not do it, I swear. You might remember me discussing my issues with this woodpecker that decided my cedar siding was more delectable than the many trees on my property.......read post here, last October 2007 when it was attacking my home mercilessly, each and every morning.

Of course not being a birdwatcher, I did not know what kind of woodpecker it was until, I was curious about the bird found dead under my Japanese fir tree last evening. I went out this morning, with my trusty pooper scooper, to remove the dead bird and noticed the long bill, red tipped head admidst black and white feathers and beautiful yellow feathers under the black wings. I thought this is an unusual bird, the coloring was so beautiful...

of course, I thought to myself, this would make a great dye combination, bright red, bright yellow, off white and black. I started to envision hand dyed yarns named after birds....LOL!!!

So, I came in, and decided to see if I could identify the bird. I googled birds and found a site called WhatBird.com....which makes it very easy to identify birds, for people like me that do not have a clue.

I had no idea it was my nemisis, THE WOODPECKER, until their search came up with a
Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker, Family: PICIDAE otherwise known as Woodpecker. There she was Dead as a Door Nail. I can't say I am sorry.

Rather, I think, it is a sign that some of the pests that have been plaguing my daily existence, The RABBIT, last week....THE WOODPECKER, this week...are on their way out of my life. I now can only hope that this progress will include the algae that has formed in my pool from the thunderstorms this past weekend....the Exs, that seem to have all showed up in my life this summer, the old anger related to said Exs, and that my UFO pile dissipates, eventually.

and then there is my STUFF, that I need to let go. The clutter, things, and effects of my past. I am determined to get rid of all this STUFF. I have opened an ebay store....please take a look at what I am putting up for sale....If you like it please buy it....give it a good home...YOURS!!!!

If you collect anything special, post cards, china, stamps, silver, coins, antiques of any type.... write me in my comments or direct, because trust me, there is something here, that you might have interest. I am attempting to put up at least 50items or more per week. It is slow going because ebay does not make it easy. An auction site should be easy or easier. Too many bells and whistles, I like simple.

Eventually fiber related stuff will go up, a spinning wheel that I have been wanting to sell....a swift, fiber for spinning, and lastly yarn from the way to big stash. I have to clear out this house, in preparation for its going up for sale sometime in February 2009.

Homeopathic Mosquito Bite Aid.........

I have been spraying my backyard with mosquito spray every other day, but,for some reason the bugs this year, just keep coming back. It is tough being outside either in the mornings or evenings, without getting at least a few bites. Its annoying... and most of the antihistamine meds, lotions or sprays offer little in the way of comfort. You wake up in the middle of the night, finally subcumbing to the itch.... and it swells and then it itches more. Such is part of those hazy hot summer days.

Not to mention, certain of us, seem to attract the most mosquito bites. Ever been at an outdoor barbeque, you are smacking your legs like a fool and look around and no one else is squirming the way you are........I am one of those people. Mosquitos have a preference for my blood, if they can get it. I have tried everything I ever read about how to persuade the little creeps to nibble on others legs. Sprays, skin so soft, natural concoctions, taking extra B vitamins, etc. Nothing works.

Until a few years ago, I read that the best way to deal with mosquito bites, was an application of heat, immediately or as soon as possible after you have been biten. A washcloth dipped in hot as you can stand it water, applied until the swelling goes down works. No waking up in the middle of the night, no need to fight the urge to scratch that bite. It works. Something about the heat dissipates the venom in the bite.

I have also steamed wet wash cloths in my microwave, used my morning cup of coffee, a hot stone by the pool put directly on the bite, will dissipate the venom, too.

It is always good to disinfect the bites after this with hydrogen peroxide and then an application of neosporin or some other similar product.

Try this method, it works, amazing well and you will save a fortune, not buying all those antihistamine products that don't work.

As for knitting or fiber content, I have nothing to report, I have been too busy, enjoying the summer, working outdoors chipping branches...and sitting by the pool without the needles. I was almost done the cables and lace sleeves...and just got tired of it. Will pick it up again soon. It is close to be finished.

I read through every message on the mystery shawl, through all the mistakes and frustrations....most members are now done, with lovely shawls to show for their efforts over 5 weeks. I have not started mine, and not sure that I ever will. I do see why these shawls are so popular, a comaraderie is built that keeps everyone working through those last very long rows....to completion. This shawl was a pi shawl and to be honest, I am just not sure that I am interested in making one. It is difficult and worn doubled....It seems like double knitting....to me.

More NEW JERSEY BALLOON FEST PHOTOS

Readington, NJ Balloon Festival 2008

What absolute glee this festival is.....a totally joyful experience to watch the balloons go up....this is the second time, I have had the priviledge to attend this particular festival. One of the largest in our country.

The anticipation on the faces of old and young alike as the helium is pumped into the balloons of all shapes and sizes. It is surprisingly quick.

And then they are off. Baskets filled with people who paid $189 for the priviledge of floating up,up and away.......to the beautiful blue skies.

They did have tethered balloon rides for $15 a person....which, would have been more my speed.

I am deathly afraid of heights, but so want to get over that fear to try this out one of these days. I have heard some people say, it is okay for people with height phobia...and others say don't do it.....you will be clutching onto the sides.....in absolute fear.

Perhaps next year, I will get the nerve to at least attempt the tethered ride....I want to know what it feels like to float above....in the blue sky.

I hope you enjoy these photos, I will put more of them up tomorrow. I just love to look at them....they make me smile BIG!

The bees were joined at the hands...and it took many people to prepare the balloon for take off. It was one of the last to go up that first evening of the festival...and the largest there.

Fireworks were set off after all the balloons were gone.The evening skies came too fast....and it was all too soon over.

I highly recommend finding a balloon festival and attending, if you have never done it. My companion had never been to a festival this large. Larger festivals are the best....this had to have 80-100 balloons.

The Festival went on all weekend, with music, food, and balloon rides in the morning and the evening. True JOY!

The patterns and colors of the balloons make great inspiration for sweaters, blankets, pillows....Hand dyed yarn pallettes..... Be inspired....and if you are, let me know....that you found that inspiration here.

Doll Scarf Commission.........

On Wednesday morning when I sat down at my computer to read my emails, I found an email from a doll enthusiast, inquiring if I would knit a replica scarf for a 12" doll of science fiction character Dr. Who , he enclosed the picture to the left as the model for

the design.

Dr. Who according to Wikpedia, is a Britsh Sci Fi show that began in 1963 and per the Guinness World Records, is apparently the longest running Sci-Fi TV show.

He requested that the scarf be 26" X 1" plus tassels, and that the yarn and stitch size be to gauge of a 12" doll........

I wrote back for more information, such as yarn desired before I could quote a price. Obviously in situations such as this, and being that I handspin yarn and dye it, I offered a wide variety of possibilities, including custom dyeing to match the photo.

In the meantime, it hit me that I had some very fine persian wool needlepoint yarn...and some #0 double point needles...which, are about the same gauge as a needlepoint needle......UGGGGGGGGGGH!!!

It turned out that I had in my stash, courtesy of my now deceased aunt's stash...just the right colors to approximate the photo of Dr. Who that was sent to me....

So I was able to make the scarf out of vintage needlepoint wool from the 1960's, which is the same time period the show first aired on British TV...... how cool is that? Thank You, Aunt Parma!!!!

STASH IS COOL, STASH is GREAT...

One never knows what's it FATE

Especially the Stash the Moths never ATE!

.....So I set about preparing a gauge swatch to send to the doll enthusiast. He approved it and the quoted price.....and away I went at the project.

I had never made any knitted doll accessories....so this was exciting design project for me.

I had to quote a price, which was about the same as I would charge for a human scarf. I was not sure that he would accept this, but he did. He tells me it is hard to find a knitter to knit doll scarves at a reasonable price.

Now, I know why....LOL!!!

I would not have done it for less and would probably want a bit more, if I did this in the future. It was really tedious knitting with the #0 needles. I found I was splitting the plys with the very sharp needles, so had to knit very slowly. I was sure I would go blind before I was done. Weaving in the multiple threads took me one and a half hours alone! But, it is done...and is very cool!!!

It took me 10 hours to complete this project from start to completion, not including emails, sample prep and blocking.

The needlepoint yarn, I believe was a good choice, due to its durability and hopefully the doll won't feel itchy....and I really like that the age of the yarn matches the age of the character, Dr.Who first being introduced.

I think it would be worthwhile, if I would ever knit another doll scarf to perhaps use a self striping sock yarn if one could be found with the right colors....or perhaps to dye lace yarn to self strip, that way all the end weaving would be avoided. On the other hand the dye time, would make the price of the project....a lot more expensive.

Please note, the artist's figure doll used to model the Mini Dr. Who scarf, is 18" high as opposed to the actual doll it was made for which, is 12" high.

Dr. Who Replica Doll Scarf Recipe

Here is the recipe for My version of the Dr. Who doll scarf. Using Persian Needlepoint Wool in various colors as desired. Cast on 9 stitches on #0 needles...and start knitting every row: Garter stitch, changing colors to match the photo above, or whenever you feel the need. You may want to use magnifying glasses and you will need very bright light to see the teeny tiny stitches. Remember it is always best to change colors on the front side, but if you want to make small stripes somewhere, for a bit of variety, change a few colors on the wrong side.

I am still plugging away on my UFO Cables and Lace Cardigan. I am almost at the sleeve caps....and then just need to sew it up. I will be happy to get this project off the needles. It is turning out well. It is amazing that this project was started 4 years ago....a UFO with a future. That is something to smile about....is it not?

Lifelines....and other important lessons of life...........

I signed up for the goddess knits free anniversary mystery shawl, Clue 3 came out yesterday. It is a pi shawl.....round. Why am I attempting another shawl?....when I am still not finished...the KAL I started on ravelry for the candle flame shawl? Insanity.

I am knitting the anniversary mystery shawl,vicarously ....at this point.

I found the yarn for it, it is a laceweight merino wool I bought in 2000 from ebay. I believe it was hanspun in a beautiful natural gray color. I hope to start the gauge swatch sometime this week. Mystery shawls seem so popular, that I could not resist....the opportunity for a free pattern.

I am judiciously saving the clues....and reading the other knitters woes and successes....scanning the photos of completed progress. There are four patterns offered every saturday, you pick one. I am a non participant at this point....beyond gathering my wool and seeing what the various other knitters pattern combinations are
yielding.

The subject of lifelines has come up as the number of stitches on the needles is becoming over the 500 mark.........and if you are knitting a laceweight shawl...you might want to check out this great explanation for how to insert a lifeline, HERE.

I know when I start my shawl, I am going to use a lifeline....it makes sense. Knitters put lifelines throughout a long knitting project, it is insurance in case you make a mistake and need to frog intricate lace patterns. You can frog back to the lifeline and know exactly where you are in the pattern.

I think that a lifeline between every clue makes sense....which, got me to thinking about life in general. We all make mistakes.....living with intention is similar to knitting with intention. It is good to know, if you hit one of those places in life where you begin falling backwards...... that you know what the worst case scenario is. Can we insert lifelines into our lives, so we don't always find ourselves free falling....or is that just something we do with the shawls that we make?

I personally think this is another lesson....to be learned from knitting. Where do we insert our lifelines....and when do we remove them.....? can our lifelines work against us?

and is this why I attempt to frog UFO boyfriend and he always comes back into my life.....was he in my lifeline structure....too? Or was I his lifeline and he does not even realize it? What happens when a person you need to frog....is so intertwined within your daily life and pursuits? HOW FAR BACK DO YOU NEED TO FROG.......to finally be free of this Mistake?

.......and I have made major progress on the UFO cables and lace cardigan from 2004.

I finished the right and left front sides and I cast on the sleeves this week.

I plan on working on the sleeves all next week.........and with any luck this UFO will be finished within the next two weeks...and I can cast on the mystery shawl.

Next weekend is July 4th, I am hoping for some peaceful serenity and definite knitting time..........and YOU....what do you have planned for this holiday weekend?

Finished OBJECT....finally!

The Silver Belle Jacket by Debbie Bliss is finito!

Yippee.....I was so worried that this would end up in the UFO heap...but success, I stuck with it and got it done.

I made several modifications to the pattern, that included a longer peplum - 4 extra repeats of the pattern, the yoke in front was made 3/4 of an inch longer and the sleeves were decreased at a slower rate, because I felt they were too wide.

The collar took forever, or at least it felt like it did. I think it helped that a fellow raveler was asking me questions along the way and we sort of finished our Silver Belle's together. I used 4 antiques black glass buttons from my stash, which I really like the look of with the yarn selected. Originally the pattern designated two.

I am really happy with the finished Belle. I can't wait to wear her come fall. The sewing up took almost two full days. It required a lot of careful stitching to match the patterns up from side to side. I realized in the process it is fun to make some projects with cables...I had not done any for awhile.

I think the most helpful thing was finding the excel spreadsheet, that kept the panel patterns organized. I made my own for the sleeves and it made the knitting much easier and checked off each row as it was completed. The project had lots of twists and turns, but, I held it together and it is finished!!!!

Beluga, the puppy helped with the Belle, by being so kind, as to steal the yarn I was using to sew up the Belle. I was intently focused on sewing keeping everything lined up, I did not see her make off with the skein of yarn.

I looked up to get more yarn...and could not find it.... Then it hit me.......BELLLLLLLLLUGA, where are you? Here is how I found her.

I think she is in her adolescence at 5 1/2 months old. She is fairly well house trained at this time...but, she is still having a hard time with the word, "NO". She has been incredibly rebellious all this week. But, she is so very cute, it is hard to get too exasperated with her antics for too long...and besides, she gives very sweet puppy kisses.

My next project is this UFO, I found, started in the Spring of 2004, a Cables and Lace Cardigan

from Vogue Knitting Magazine and I have started to rework it. It took a bit to figure out why I stopped, but after a few frogs....I got down to creating a knitting chart from the written directions...

Yes, me the person who hates to use charts. I think it is the Belle's fault.

I have been working with charts for the better part of this month...and found that it simplified the pattern. It will also help in reversing the pattern for the right front side. It took me several hours, but it has helped it go faster. My goal is at least 24 rows per day. If anyone is interested in the chart, for the small size fronts, please leave a comment with your email address and I will forward you a copy.

The back was already completed. The right side had to be frogged, it got a stain on it, and it would not come out with washing, so I frogged back to the stain and removed it. It is drying out.

I started with the left front fresh, in an attempt to figure out why I stopped this project in the middle of the right front and never finished it. I think the stitch count was wrong for the fronts size small should be 59 stitches instead of the 58 listed.

I am exhausted, it was a very long day...and I still need to finish 6 more rows on my left side, before bedtime.

Nearly Had a Total and Complete Techno MELTDOWN.....

but....Mr. P called and all this techie stuff was soon forgotten...hope he is looking as good as his voice.....he could be THE ONE! In any case, it is just fun to think he might be.

So last nite at about 5pm I tried to install a chitka premium ad to my blog...I had been putting it off all week, and should have kept putting it off, because it sent my blog in to technical failure, I had two blog titles, no center header, all my font colors disappeared....and luckily or NOT, the verbage remained....

I spent most of the evening trying to figure out what happened. I am dreadful at HTML, who invented that language. Isn't it enough that I have mastered french, a fundamental understanding of spanish and am often very articulate in english?

In any case, after some more attempts this morning....I opted for a new template, new font colors and font. Forgive the color sense, I was limited in my choices by Google. At this point, I am overwhelmed with the technical aspects and decided this is the way it will stay for the moment. If you can't read it as well as the old one, please leave me comments....and I will figure out something...or find someone that CAN figure it out.

The store has been permanently frogged. I made up my mind, I do not want what is going on up at the marketplace in my life. Life is too short, to put yourself in a situation that you know going in, has significant problems. I am a bit depressed by the loss of this opportunity, but am hoping that I find another business project to pique my interests. Otherwise, it is back to work in the financial field...YUCK!

I found a handpaint yarn company for sale, but the asking price is way over reality. I am hoping that the owner will listen to reason...it is a possibility. I find myself contemplating my dreams these past few days. What is it I would like the second half of my life to be? What would you like yours to be? If you don't know you will never get there.

UFO boyfriend is still making feeble attempts for contact. I am bouncing his emails. It does not seem to be helping. In his defense, I had a terrible dream about him, having a car accident in the white alfetta, blood was everywhere. After thinking long and hard, I decided to tell him about it via email. He of course, issued a sardonic response. After the weekend, I got an email, YOU WERE RIGHT! He took his white alfetta in and all 4 wheels were extremely, loose. Of course, there was no, THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE! Just more obnoxious emails, he is shooting for negative attention. Why do people do that? You get more bees with honey....

Still trying to decide if I will go to the Italian Car Show on Sunday in Headhouse Square. I have been to it for the last three years. UFO is sure to be there with one of his cars, hence my concern. It is best to avoid, old hangouts that you went to with your ex-significant other....it just serves to make you nostalgic for the past which, is NOT WHERE your future lies. Various experts advise

The Silver Belle Jacket is humming along, near to completion. I am adding more rows to the peplum as I expected would be my desire. Originally I had contemplated 2- 4 row repeats, but have settled on 4 repeats. Both sleeves are finished and pinned together. I like how my sleeves turned out, they are the perfect length. I extended the yoke from 7" to 7 3/4" to accomodate my bustline and it worked well.

So all that remains is the cable columns that the yoke attaches to and knitting the collar and sewing it up. I will feel so much better when it is done and am sure it does not land in the UFO heap. With any luck, the knitting will be finished by the end of this weekend :-)

UFO'S that need to be FROGGED...

UFO boyfriend, has been frogged permanently! (L this is for you....LOL!)...and for others reading this blog...L is a fan...and has been recommending this ever since first reading my blog. Frogging a person from your life....is a concept I had never considered....How to do that effectively, will be a subject possibly for my next post.

Frogged permanently meaning, for example, numbers removed from my speed dial, etc. The things you set up in life when you are in a relationship....and perhaps are no longer consciously aware of their existence....photos around the house, in rooms you rarely visit are another....and the list can go on.....and on. It was time, I had just not gotten around to it. Now it is done. It was painless, because a true break up, is just that....indicative that something is broken....and can not be fixed. It is time to move on to greener pastures.

This is just as important, for personal relationships that have gone awry as for home projects, art projects...and knitting projects. Clutter blocks energy....either physical clutter or emotional.

So when does a UFO need to be Frogged?

1. When it's very existence keeps you from moving forward, consciously or subconsciously.

2. When it impacts your creativity, negatively.

3. When it weighs on your heart, too heavily.

4. When there is no future.

5. When it takes more effort or thought than it will likely ever give.

6. When it is totally out of your control...like you need more yarn and it is no longer available or in the original dye lot you require.

7. When it is oversized or undersized....It does not fit you and probably never will!

8. When you know no matter what you do, it will never make you happy or even crack a smile........and there are other projects or alternatives that will!!!

9. When you have partially frogged and redid, frogged and redid more than 5 times....give up and start a new project, this one just was not for you.....even though it seemed perfect at conception.

10. When you run out of storage space....and there is no where left to put this oddball.......

On other subject matters, the puppy doozal...is 16 weeks old......and growing cuter by the day.

She is healthy and happy and a good addition to our home.Koko is so happy and thriving with her new friend.

Note, trust your instincts,even when all your friends and family are telling you, not to do something, it does not mean your instincts aren't the right ones.

The store, is in abeyance at the moment. There are problems with which, I am not sure that I want to contend. I am contemplating severing this arrangement, with great remorse, partly because completion of my store, is just taking too long!

This is what the interior looks like so far.I have put 5 months into planning this venture, so if I do decide to end the transaction it will be with great difficulty....but with the knowledge that I had no other choice.

Hint: It has something to do with the nefarious antique dealer across the way, who is not on the up and up! He has a theft record fairly long and a history of drug abuse. I am not pleased about the situation for many reasons, obvious and otherwise.

Some people see second chances only as a way to do more harm.

I am weighing my options as I type and will make a final decision at the end of this holiday weekend.

Please take a moment this weekend, to remember those that are still far from home....fighting on our behalf, protecting our shores....and those that have died to honor our country and US.

Please help end the horrible conditions that puppy's may endure at PENNSYLVANIA puppy mills. It is atrocious and despicable that any animal should be subject to the current conditions.

happened last evening....and there were actually three of us that showed up....Four if you count the EX-HUBBIE, who showed up without his KNITTING AGAIN!

We were happily knitting away....and discussing Karen's impending nuptials...when I happened to mention my stepson's wedding planning....and, how he called to inform us that our 1/4th share of his big event was $14,000 and we never agreed to pay for anything....or knew the planning had begun...LOL! I had just mentioned that ultimately our share was weedled down to $7,000 sometime after my EX, exclaimed.....HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND???? FOR WHAT???? I just gave you a $10k graduation gift and a very generous engagement gift and I have your school loans to payoff...

Seems stepson and his fiance, decided to go shopping with everyone's money and just assumed we would gladly pay the bill. We were laughing about it......When the EX showed up out of no where and corroborated my story. My question is, did I subconsciously will him to show up? Is that possible? If so, why didn't my soulmate show up with him?

It was about then that Karen and Jane decided to part, I wish I had. I ended up having two MERLOTS at the grotto with him.......which, helped me immensely. I had a third one when I arrived home. The silver belle right yoke never got finished. I am still working on it.

I had peanut butter and jelly for breakfast and an extra helping of whipped cream in my coffee this morning...I needed it.

The EX inquired about the well-being of UFO Boyfriend,he had bumped into someone UFO had worked with who had been fired and wondered if UFO was okay and still had his JOB....LOL!

I said, "perhaps you can start stalking him....you two have lots in common."

The highlight of the evening, was when I said to the EX-HUBBIE, you never hear what I say....after, he asked me the same question 3 times. He said, yes, I heard everything you said. I did. That is when I said, "so why do you keep asking me the same question over and over? My answer has not changed".....LOL!!! He did not have an answer for that.

He told me he is doing well and does not need to take his meds anymore. I said, how do you know....he said, because I decided this. I said, you are a narcissist...diagnosed, forgive me, you are not the one to decide this alone....hopeless! He also insisted he is no longer obsessive compulsive. I said, well why can't you sit still, why do you have to constantly be moving, that is an anxiety trait. He insisted he just likes to move constantly....he never stopped moving or making noise for the entire 14 years we lived together. My house is so quiet now that he is no longer here. I am broke but, I have silence.

He did inform me that he is doing well financially and making beaucoup bucks again...without any thought to how he devastated my life. Mental illness is devoid of logic or reason. It is best to just listen, nod your head...and hope the discussion is over soon. The two merlots helped me immensely with this.....

He may now be willing to pay me back the $750 he owes me. I hope so.....but, not counting on it!!!!

I got most of my chores done today, which included bill paying, biz phone calls....and tomorrow, I am joining the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. I hear that this is very helpful to new businesses and comes with lots of support which, I will need. I never ran a retail enterprise of my own and am starting to get nervous about it. Some stores have opened...last FRIDAY.

My shop is still under construction, still hoping now to open before JUNE sometime. There is just so much to do....but, much of which, I need to have the construction out of the way first, to get done. I need visuals.

I love the new lingerie store, PRIVE....go check it out. I bought four great pieces there: A matching leather thong, skirt and bustier with red satin ribbons that lace it all up. And another bustier with black and fuschia stitching and fuschia satin ribbons. I love fabulous lingerie, it is a weakness of mine and nice lingerie is hard to find.

The oxygen bar is now open. I tried it out, it was great. The owner also has a very funky clothing store next to it. It has some great tops in it. What I liked most was a line of jewelry that she is carrying....where you put aromatherapy fragrances into the necklace or belly button rings...very different and a product I had never seen before.

The woman next to my store, also has jewelry. She is doing more beading...but had some cool repousse cuffs. She also has lots of hot sauces.

It turned out to be a beautiful spring day today, so I am going to fire up the grill and make some dinner for myself and the two dogbears and work on the Silver Belle right YOKE. I have memorized the pattern which, makes the knitting go fast. I am so curious how the finished sweater will turn out. The construction is unique.

Feedback For Male Cyberdaters.......

Okay, I will admit it......I am befuddled, befruzzaled, betwixt and between....never chatting with another cyber dater again........I have been contemplating this all morning, because when I absolutely would have rather spent my Saturday evening, with THE SILVER BELLE SLEEVE..... than out laughing and flirting at one of the nicest area restaurants, with a charming "Built like a Celt guy....who is man enough to wear a skirt...." I know there is something wrong.

........and to quote, Johnny Guitar Watson....." there is something wrong....something wrong...yes,there is".....but, What I said to myself this morning....WHAT?

First off, I think it is truly romantic, to quote Mel from Braveheart........and to even have a romantic fantasy that YOU ARE WILLIAM WALLACE....but, let's face facts, there was only one William Wallace and he is NOW dead....and as I type this, I just know that this post is going to haunt me......but, some things just need to be said.

I am constantly written to by men, who would like to take me out. They are always complaining that they write and write to women and have trouble meeting someone nice....and they do not have a clue as to why. I DO KNOW that, there is tons of stuff on the net, written about cyber dating etiquette...for men and women..........WHY NOT READ IT???? Try it out....if it does not work, you can always go back to your old routine.

I spent the first half hour of my date, waiting and waiting for HIM to show up. Now call me crazy, but isn't the woman supposed to be the one late....especially if her drive is 45 minutes...and his is 10 minutes?????? I am the one that is usually late! I knew then I was in trouble. Thank God for Merlot, and that it was good merlot.

First thing he says, after hello is DO I look like my photo?....well his photo had long hair....his was short. He was a lot a younger....did not have that triple chin or BIG BELLY.....so here I am....sipping my Merlot and wondering why I did not leave when the going was good......???

He must have asked me, five times if he looked like his photos? I confess, I LIED....I was hungry....I was already there. He spent half the evening, telling me how Celtic looking he was....the highlight was when he asked the waitress what nationality she thought he was....she was irish.....she said, "Scandinavian"....he was crushed.

Point to be made, It is not romantic, to discuss your looks for entire first date....or to solicit commentary from the waitress. Your mind should be on something else.

I finally asked, "Do I look like my photos?", since this seemed to be the one and only topic of the evening. I got, Yes, you are slender....a petite woman. Then he said, I like Big Women....and I thought, so what are you taking me out for????? HELLO.......I knew then, that even if, I wanted this date to go somewhere, it was not going anywhere that I wanted to be. Capische?

He did ask me, No, He said, I need a woman to help me find accoutrements for my apartment and unpack boxes,...... Will you help? I said, "what is the pay"......like I have nothing better to do than go out shopping for a man, in my free time..........I looked at him and said, forgive me, but I am still unpacking from two years ago.....and opening a new business....I am not looking for more chores to do.........

There was one good and shining moment of the evening.....olives stuffed with blue cheese...YUMMMMMM! Very good in a martini.

This date, goes on my list of all time worst dates.....I did not even order dessert!

.....and then people, wonder why an attractive woman like me is still single.....I guess that is because, I do not consider IT dating...... DOING YOUR CHORES, Cleaning up your messes, doing your laundry or the solicitation thereof.....I have enough of my own to do. Not to mention discussing these chores is about as far from romance as I can imagine....and I DO THINK WILLIAM WALLACE would agree.

I am NOT YOUR WIFE.....NOT YET....so stop treating me like I am.....if you need a maid, HIRE ONE.....if you need an errand girl, HIRE ONE........if you need an image consultant, HIRE ONE....but, please do not ask me out on the guise of a date.....to get my services for free. I did not get dressed up and drive out here for a JOB INTERVIEW....I am here for Romance ....ROMANCE....and if you do not know what this is, or have forgotten.....start reading here........

Then I wake up, make some coffee....with extra whipped cream...I needed the extra whipped cream this morning.........started to check out my emails and found this message from someone who would like to take me out........

"there is NOTHING LIKE A MATURE WOMAN THAT HAS KEPT HER youthful figure"....
please call me.........

Now, call me crazy, but, this is not one of the all time best, pick up lines for a first email......is it? No wonder guys write that they do not like meeting women in bars....THEY CAN'T...

Not with a pick up line like this......My thought is, if you can not meet a woman at a bar....then you are not going to have anymore luck online......

The worst part about all this, IS THESE MEN ARE MAKING UFO boyfriend....look good....and that should not be.

UFO boyfriend admits to drinking too much, not buying gifts, not showing up when he says he will, being confused, being unable to commit to anything but, getting to work on time, being difficult, vain and self-centered....being a player. But, at least he can carry on an intelligent discussion, has many interests and advocations.....and can tell a good joke or ten. I am worried that I will never meet the guy for me....these days. Maybe I am just looking in all the wrong places for love. I need help on this one.

I think I am going to start lying about my age. Mature woman with a youthful figure, that I am......where is THE SLEEVE????.....I am staying offline today and knitting THE SLEEVE....it will nurture me, it will keep me warm, it will make me feel beautiful, it will get me compliments, it won't be late....it won't waste my time.....it will be what it is....A sleeeve....and that is just fine with me. I can relate to the sleeve. I can not relate to men who are legends in their own minds........

We are all aging.....it happens while we sleep, while we work, while we eat, while we walk.....it happens, is happening, will happen........and all we can do about that is to accept it graciously...one day at a time.....Now how to do that well is the quest......

Lastly, I just want to say this, I like men...I really do....and the truth is, I am just wondering what happened to all the real men. Those traditional men....those chauvinistic men....those men like William Wallace, who really meant what they said....that were self sufficient, brave, courageous,and knew what they wanted....and went out to get it! Those men that respected women and knew how to treat them like women...

Chasing the Blues away.....

....and the Virtues of a PB&J....otherwise known as the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich....can cure the blues in my humble opinion, unless of course your blues are related to weight gain! When was the last time you had one? If you are like me it has been awhile. Not sure what possessed me, but, I am glad it did!

How do you like yours?

Of key importance is deciding whether you want chunky or smoooooooth? Natural or lots of corn syrup? I prefer natural smooth. My favorite brand is "crazy richard's" which, I always call crazy dave's not sure why...You can pour off some of the fat and reduce those calories.

I like smooth...I think life generally has far too many ruts...and bumps, so I prefer to leave them out of my peanut butter.

Then there is the jelly/jam selection....a crucial component to a good sandwich...

There is the old standby, grape....but let's face it, grape jelly does not taste as good, when you can not buy it in those fantabulous flintstones glasses....am I right? The smurfs never did it for me.....
My favorites are apricot, black raspberry or strawberry. Homemade is best. What are
yours?

Remember to cut the crusts off........it is a little extra effort, but....it has amazing benefits. Eat one side with crust and one without........and you will see what I mean. and of course, Wonder bread makes the best PB&J's.....plus the wrapper is just sooooooooo cheerful!

My mom used to tell me crust made your hair curlier....so if, you want curls eat your PB & J with crust.

When you are done smacking your lips......I guarantee that you will be smiling... and what's a few extra calories, when the endorphins are charged up for a great day...

This weekend, a friend took me up to NYC to see the John Dillinger band, of "Hang on Sloopy" fame. He wrote those lyrics at the age of 16. They were together for the first time in 32 years....and I had a blast. It was at BB Kings place right near Times Square. Good food, good music and lots of smiles. That is Ken Arenson below...and John Dillinger is in the center in the photo to the right.

I had not been in NYC for awhile, and it was very cool to be amongst the hustle and bustle on a friday nite.

Saturday, I went to an Art Gallery benefit in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia...to benefit AIDS care. Saw some interesting art, including a sculpture made entirely out of dildoes...too funny.

Bicycles with toilets attached. There was only one handmade piece of clothing, which was a knitted tank top with fabric inserts.

Sunday, I spent the morning vaccuming up blossoms that covered my deck from the trees.

Spring is going so fast. My lilacs and irises are already blooming and that usually does not happen this early. Here is the view from my blogging window.

On a knitting related note, I began the Silver Belle Jacket by Debbie Bliss from the Vogue 25th Anniversary Mag on April 11th....in violation of only two new projects going at once, 376 stitches for the peplum…yipes!

....and as I am working on row 1, I am thinking this is smelling like a UFO… before the first row of the peplum is done. ;-) I hate chart knitting, for anything but, lace!

After getting through the first row, I started the second, which is when I realized the first row was wrong…because I had read the chart right to left which is the standard way to read a KNITTING CHART!!!

I had to find the magazine and study the photo…to figure out where I went wrong. frogging 376 stitches sucks and took the better part of the morning…but there was no way I was going to cast on those 376 stitches again!

The first important thing to note in this pattern is some bimbo, decided to start the first chart row from left to right….I envision this took an entire board room and think tank to screw this up…Why do people create standards to follow.....and then ignore them?

(Exerpt on reading knitting charts from the book, "knitting for dummies"!!! “You will follow the chart bottom to top and right to left. The second row will then be read from the left to the right. “) It would have been nice to have left us a NOTE….stating in clear english….start these charts left to right!!!!

The next complaint is the charts are too tiny…so I went back to the original pattern and blew up the charts….if anyone wants a copy of these large charts, just email me…and they are yours.

Now that this is straightened out, I am contentedly working across row 2….once the pattern is established it will be easy to remember, but, screwing up the first pattern repeat…is a fast road to the UFO heap!

Found a lot of good info on the silver belle here which included someone’s pattern row table for the peplum(sorry, I forgot where I found this)…to use in each section. This was the biggest help.

So merrily knitting along on the peplum and contemplating as I knit all the modifications others made that I found on ravelry, longer peplums, more buttons, different collars, sleeve edgings…etc. Ravelry is an amazing site, once you get used to navigating its offerings.

4/22/08 - finished the peplum, but, I am going to put it all on stitch holders, in case I want to make it longer. It took almost five skeins. Very happy with the way it looks…..and the yarn I selected is very soft and comforting to knit. It has been a long time since I have done an aran project and I have forgotten how much I enjoy them.

4/24 started the sleeves…I am only increasing stitches every 16 rows instead of 8…and did 2 rows of moss stitch before beginning the sleeve chart. I prepared a sleeve pattern row table like the one I found for the peplum…it helps immensely.

If you want this file, just email me or post to the comments here. The directions leave a lot to be desired even for someone that has been knitting as long as I have. I have to wonder about some of the technical editors around...or editors...

There is an error in the sleeve chart, for the bobble pattern. It says k3 together, and it should

state P3 together.

Here is beluga modeling the sleeve. She is 13 weeks old today and thriving. Her and Koko have become fast friends. It is a lot of work training a puppy, but I am so glad I decided to do this. Koko has come out of her depression and is enjoying mothering this young pup.

Beluga's latest enjoyment is biting the white dandelion globes. It makes me smile everytime,I think about her face when she gets a mouthful of air and seeds.

Here is a link below for discounted Pet supplies. I was shopping around for interceptor and frontline for koko and beluga....yes, it is tick time in the northeast already.

We had our first incident even though the Pet weather report said it was not time yet. I found a tick attached to koko sunday afternoon on her forehead. I got it out by covering it with vaseline and tugging and tugging on it with a tweezers. Unfortunately, it has made an ugly sore on her head. It was not a deer tick and she already has the lyme disease antibodies in her system with no symptoms, but her head was sore for a day or two.

I bought some sentry tick and flea topical treatment, but unfortunately she had a reaction to that Sunday evening, which necessitated an emergency bath...and calls to the sentry hotline. I was not impressed. I am returning the rest of my purchase. Frontline is expensive but, for my dogs there have been no side effects.

Koko had a terrible Sunday and I did too!

Beluga's paper training is coming along well. I am training her using those puppy pads, which are quite expensive. I use as an alternative the depends mats (for incontinent people). They are cheaper and larger and you can get a big box of them at Sam's Club for about $26, which is about the same cost as 25 regular puppy pads. I was interested to find out they make puppy disposable diapers...what will they think of next?

I am also training her to walk on a leash which is going remarkably well. I must admit that last tuesday, I pretty much hit my low point with the training, but, she has made major improvement since then, with very few accidents if any, now. I had forgotten how focused you must be to train a puppy...and how little sleep it involves in the first few weeks.

I am happy that I got the puppy, because she is very good for koko and they are really becoming good friends. Koko was becoming more and more depressed living without Max and I truly was becoming worried that she would die of a broken heart. She is so much more focused and energetic now...which, does my heart good as well.

We have a new puppy here...finally. Her name is Beluga...since she looks like she put her face is something very black...I figured it may as well be caviar...:-)

She is a just a bit over 3 lbs....but a force to be reckoned with. She has busted out of her gated space three times, and when barricaded, chewed her way through it. :-) She is now safely ensconced in a metal cage....and just waiting for her to bust out of that.

As you can see she has already become fascinated with my yarn....I am knitting her a small coat, as it is still quite chilly for a new pup. She decided to help me with the tension by pulling on the yarn as it was coming out of the ball. I am making the puppy coat out of bulky cotton chenille on size 13 needles. Will snap a shot of her modeling her new duds, when we are done.

Opening an A New Art Business.........

is overwhelming....actually beyond overwhelming. Yesterday, was spent at the lighting store, ordering lighting fixtures. Expensive.

Going to a paint store to select paint chips and chips and chips....Selecting one color is not easy. LOL! Still working on that. Of course everyone wants to give you advice....and you need it, but, it is best to choose what you love. It is your store. Follow your instincts.

Today, I have to purchase a utility sink, for dyeing fibers and doing metal work, in the back work room. Thinking of bringing my spare spinning wheel there as well. I also have to find a Utility light for the back work room. Ugghhhhhhh!

All the walls are up in my store. I will try to take some photos today. We had to change the design a bit, because the sink could not be located where I wanted it.

Then there is the accounting system for the costs. The filings for business license, business insurance, corporate accounts, master charge equipment, computer links, name of business... still undecided, business cards still to be selected....and they are saying things will be complete enough to possibly begin moving my things in by the end of next week....LOL!!!

I see a meltdown in my future. I am doing everything by the seat of my pants at the moment with the hope that everything in my head will come together in the end.....to resemble some kind of business with a theme.........besides INSANITY.

Why am I doing this again????

How to blog when life is busy..........

and you are way too tired to type........and should be in bed dreaming about...whatever.

Life is so complicated these days, dating and dating....and opening a shop in Doylestown, PA.......and trying to unload my antiques and extraneous stuff... and finding that honest people are a rarity these days.

Been working on business plans, and architectural plans....this is a bit overwhelming....and exciting at the same time. Set up a corporation... THE DOG BEAR PLANET, INC. EIN#'s to get, business license....visa/mastercharge machine.........labels, make art to sell.......etc, etc, etc.

yes, those are a photos of the shop.......in progress...under construction. Hard to believe that one day in the future it will become my place of business. Now why did I decide this was my road to travel?

Finished off projects.........yippeeeeeee!

Finally finished off something or two.......my Nicky Epstein flower scarf is sewn, finished and blocked. This took two days to sew the flowers together. I had to make the border longer and make 7 more flowers to get it to the length I wanted it to be. What a nightmare!

But, am happy with the finished scarf, I love the colors, the feel, the look....it is a bit bulky due to the flowers.

I think I will make another in ivory and make it not as wide.

Here is a close up shot of the flowers. I used angora, mohair, alpaca and handspun wool.

....and the second finished item. A spring sweater with Blue Heron beaded cotton in seaweed colorway. I ran short of yarn and improvised with some berrocco suede in blue. It turned out nicely, since the pattern called for
a contrast trim.

The pattern is the cover photo on the Spring/Summer 2005 Family Circle Easy Knitting Magazine. It was really easy to knit. Finished it in two weeks.

And here is my new KIP project, the Frenchy Camisole by Katie Himmelberg, from the Interweave Knits magazine Spring 2007.

I am using some variegated silk yarn I found in my stash. Not sure whose it is or where I bought it, but I suspect it was an early ebay purchase.

It is on 7 circulars. It is an easy knit and suitable for a take along project.

I am also working on the Dean Crane, candle flame shawl, with some Blue Heron variegated silk yarn which, is coming alone nicely. Will put up a photo with the next post of my progress. This is the KAL for the Bucks County Stitch and Bitch group on Ravelry.

Well that is all for today, I have to get moving, showered, to the bank and up to sign the lease for my new shop in Doylestown. More on that later. This is big and overwhelming, lots to do.

February, traditionally known as the month of romance...is almost gone and even with an extra day, this year, only one week remains. It is snowing here in Bucks County this morning....real snow finally. Our first substantial snow this winter. I am looking at the flakes fall from my fiber studio window. It is lovely. It is quiet.... I like snow! I just may get the old flexible flyer out this year and take a few runs down the hill behind my home....

I did a little shoveling, this morning. Will go back out in a bit, to do more. A bit at a time. Brought in some firewood to dry in my garage, for a fire and some knitting this evening. I am contemplating soup. I found some Sante Fe Corn Chowder soup mix...and I have the fixings to add...for my dinner. I am envisioning a quiet evening, warm, tv and my fibers. This is my romance for now. I am content.

No UFO boyfriend, to torture my heart and soul. It has been a long road... but, to quote BB King.....the thrill is long gone. I want happiness...I want peace and contentment. I want stability and sanity in my life...and
those that do not fit that simple criteria, no longer have a place in my life. This is a conscious decision I have made this month. No going back... No being dragged back into that drama....never again.

How did this come about? I spoke to his ex. She told me she is now happily married to a nice guy, after two years of therapy. Need I say more. She said, people are what they are....decide what you want and go out and find him. He is there, you are just not looking in the right places. Stop lying to yourself, or wishing an apple was an orange.

Which got me to thinking....is that why some of my projects end up in the UFO heap....were they apples that I wanted to be oranges....and I put them aside, hoping one day when I open that old knitting bag, they will some how miraculously have turned into oranges with time? Taking up space and knitting tools, that could be used to start a new project....that might be the orange....instead of the apple, I did not want.

...My thought is UFO's, just need to be FROGGED....at a certain age? They represent old dreams....and leave no room for new dreams. Holding onto to something, just because you are afraid to face the time and effort invested, was not worthwhile, is not productive either.

I am wondering, how many of these UFO's in my studio, need to be unraveled to begin again....with a new plan....and new concept....a new dream. When do we determine the time is right to Unravel old dreams and find new ones. A year, three years...five? When do you decide a UFO is just that a UFO....and accept, it as a failure that can become a new success....if you start over?

I would rather Be home KNITTING!.... and Other Musings.......

well it was another banner weekend, on the cyber dating circuit......a friday nite date that showed up for dinner and drinks wearing jeans and those white, white, white...the kind that glow in the dark, sneakers.......or cross trainers...as if that makes wearing them on a Friday evening out to dinner with a girl you are trying to impress...seem more sophisticated....or is the thought for a guy, plausible?

I thought white shoes were only worn on the tennis court, gym....or after memorial day????

Then there was me, nice black above the knee dress, black stockings, and heels.....OOps....think lady and the tramp..........okay, so we still have possibilities....I mean they hit it off did they not? He was nice and funny, until we got to the part where he was engaged....and they broke it off, and she was mad because she wanted to keep the ring.....but, don't worry, I GOT IT BACK!!!!

ladies, ladies, ladies..........what are you going to do with that ring????? Wear it? Did you get engaged for the RING or the GUY?

But it gets better.......I got to wondering what he was going to do with it.... So I figured I would ask....

Soooooooo, I said, what are you going to do with it, sell it? No, I threw it in a drawer.....and? then, it just slipped out of my red lips......I hope you are not going to give that to some unsuspecting woman.....are YOU???? He said, yeah, well I would, but, today women want to pick out rings themselves.........and I am thinking, he has been through this before.....

My next question was, what if she finds out, three years after you marry her, that her ring, that she BELIEVES, that you selected JUST FOR HER.....was selected BY the previous fiance.....and you just figured, it would be fine for the replacement....fiance?

and his excuse, as he shrugs his shoulders, thinking, I wanted to get engaged....I needed an engagement ring to do that...and voila, there was that old one in my drawer, that no one was using..... PROBLEM SOLVED .....with minimum amount of effort and NO effect on CURRENT CASH FLOW..... GEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ!

I wonder how many guys pawn off diamonds from their ex's onto their new girls?

I even solicited a few opinions from the gallery (bar)....on the subject matter....all of which, felt this was not a good idea.......including some men....

It was at this point, I was sure, that I would rather be home knitting alone....fantasizing about a Friday nite date......and still believing in potential romance.....at least I would eventually end up with something of
substance!

Now, what did Smokey the Bear say," it only takes ONE MATCH, to burn down an entire FOREST?" or months and months of courting a woman.....she finally falls for you, and you give her some ring that another woman selected for herself????....is it worth it??????

Why is it when relationships end, the guy is usually counting up the bucks he spent and trying to get the gifts he gave back? Does money spent represent love expended to men?

What happened to romance........? I always want to say, how's your heart doing? How long did it take for you to get over her? Did you? Or are you really saving the ring, thinking, she will be back......when she realizes, that she had it pretty good with me?

Have we become so jaded in today's world where the only issue is what material things did we get or expend......and not where we went wrong and whose heart we hurt? How can we grow from this experience?

UFO boyfriend, told me a similar thing....at least you got two years of dinners paid for you....that is something......making me wonder, where he was when we were having those dinners....one or two nights a week.........? or that, it was sheer drudgery to take me to those dinners that HE INVITED me to go to with him........? Is this how a man, defines time wasted, in terms of dollars spent?

Would you rather have slept with your bank book? I think I am getting jaded. There has to be one nice guy out there, who knows what it is to romance a woman.....and enjoys doing it, just for its own intrinsic value....and if it leads to a life time of romance and love....wow, that is great...and if it doesn't work out.....well........I had a good time....and was blessed to have her in my life...
as she was to have me in hers....for a time.

One man that looks forward to the future. That wants to build a New life of love....without all the fears and trappings from the past.........where are you ROMEO?

Oh, I forgot you and juliette had a little communication problem that resulted in DEATH....LOL! yuupppppppp....I think I am becoming a little jaded....in the romance department :-)

I think I will stick to my affair with my yarn stash.... :-)

Happy NEW YEAR.....better late than never

.....wow, did this month fly by or what? I have been so busy with the holidays
and life, that I have not had a chance to post to, this here, blog.

So what has been going on, here is a list:

1. knitted several gifts for the holidays....and at the last minute....

2. almost got killed in my ford expeditioner, when the brakes failed
promptly after the car was inspected. Nice. If you own a ford,
please go have your brake lines inspected, there is no known
maintenance program for their replacement, per my questioning
of my dealership.

if you do not own a ford truck and see one behind you, pull over and
let it pass, because the brakes could go out at any time , if the brake
lines have not been replaced. Nothing like a near death experience
to help you get your priorities in order.

3. Broke up with UFO boyfriend on xmas day....not that we were having
much of a relationship lately, but the illusion, clearly, gave me something
although, other than a migraine and low self esteem, I am not sure.

For those thinking of ending one of your relationships, you might want
to check this site out.

4. My cousin had a diving accident in the bahamas, I am his medical proxy...
the medical drama went on for 10 days. Please if you are reading this post
get your affairs in order. Will, living will, notebook filled with relevant
information for your beneficiaries, safety deposit keys, bank accounts,
insurance policies....etc. I still have not done this myself, but it is very
much on my mind.

Accidents happen. If you care about your loved ones you will help
make this sort of situaion, even easier on them.....because it is quite stressful.

I am happy to say, the coz came out of his coma, but is still struggling
with pneumonia....and is back in the hospital since last Thursday. I wish
him well and am praying for him....

5. My aunt ended up in the hospital last week as well. I am also her
medical proxy. Needless to say, being responsible for two people
at the same time, was a bit overwhelming. She went home yesterday.

6. knitting content....I finished my nicky epstein sweater...no photos
taken. I like it but, the shoulders are too big. I am working on a
ribbed summer sweater with that blue heron cotton beaded yarn
in the colorway called seaweed. no UFO's have been completed.
I am focused on doing one project at a time. I feel good about
this change.

The Weekend....Family Visits....etc........

We all have families....and with them come family responsibilities. Complex, complicated...and fraught with many mixed emotions. We get through these events with smiles, laughs, tears, regrets and a whole slew of emotions...which, I mostly attempt to avoid dealing with for fear that a conflict will arise that I just can not deal with at this time in my life. This time of year is filled with many such events.

My family is fraught with personalities that always seem to know what IS better for you, than you do. This judgement is usually made without discerning all the facts, with preconceived perceptions determined from one's childhood and with no allowance made for evolution of one's life and growth. It works like this, I say black and they most assuredly WILL say WHITE!

Through the years, I have come to realize that the best way to coexist with them is to NEVER, ask for their help. It is more effort than resolving things yourself and it usually results in little being accomplished. Dealing with UFO boyfriend is a similar experience.

My brother came to visit this weekend from Phoenix. He is my little brother. He is married to his second wife, a woman that I prefer to no longer associate. I have my reasons. He understands them. It still makes our relationship difficult. Other issues make our relationship difficult as well. I am never-the-less happy that he came to visit and that he helped me fix the foyer chandelier which, is now dust free with all the light bulbs working.

We spent all day Saturday together. We had $1 dogs at the Temperance House and a few beers, worked on some things at the house, got caught up, had beef stew.....and watched UFO boyfriend himself, show brother that he is NOT a good influence on my life....even though brother told me at the Temp, his perception was that UFO boyfriend had had a profound positive influence on my disposition. NOT!

UFO boyfriend is a disruptive influence on my existence. To explain, UFO boyfriend was supposed to be here around noon, he never showed up until 4pm. He was supposedly working on his many cars. I got upset and told him not to come. He shows up anyway. If I accept another date,I am concerned that he will show up and interrupt that other date. If I plan to do something else and get started, he interrupts this too. This is my dilemma. So much for changing your behavior as a method, for encouraging changed behavior from others....because, with some difficult people, this will NOT WORK EITHER!

This routine seems to occur every Saturday afternoon. I have no idea what he does, I just don't like it. I never know if he will come or not and am tired of the DRAMA that ensues and the anxiety it produces in my life. So here is brother actually beginning to accomplish an important task. UFO boyfriend, shows up and calls from the driveway, expecting me to stop everything and go outside and help him fix his broken headlight with phillips screwdrivers in tow. I say, come inside and say hello. I hand him the tools and say, I am busy, you are late and interrupting my progress. I have things to do and your problem is NOW yours. If you had come earlier, we might have addressed this as part of our day. He did not like it, but learnt that day, life was going to change.

It has to. Why is it that some people do not treat you with respect until you have a confrontation? Why do they require you to go to that extreme? It boggles my mind. If someone asks me to stop doing something that bothers them....I talk it through and make a choice as to whether I will comply or not. UFO boyfriend for some reason prefers to continue the drama and anxiety and disrespect of my time. He also, clearly ignores my request that he move on with his life, if this is the case. I am stumped on this one.

It is as if, I am invisible to him. Or we are having a relationship his way, whether I accept this or not. It is really an extraordinary situation, that I never can quite explain to others. However, now that brother agrees this is not so easy to diagnose, I feel better. Because he is right. UFO boyfriend....is an anomaly and just another cross, I have to bear in my life these days.

So we had beef stew, that turned out great....and hop devil beer which, was wonderful....and listened to UFO boyfriend play his electric guitar....and watched three o'clock high a funny movie together...followed by Now, Voyager with Bette Davis.....I love Bette! Theme of both of these movies, lead character, pushed around by others....finally stands up, finds their balance, will to follow their own heart and changes their life, while ignoring what those around them think or believe ....and survives to become a stronger and much admired person. I think I will watch them again and knit and hope that somehow this rubs off on me.

Sunday, brother and I went to visit our uncle and our aunt. I was glad that we did, we had a good time. After which, we went out to Barnaby's in Havertown to watch football. The rams lost, the cardinals lost and the eagles lost. Not one of our teams won. We had fun. Came home and relaxed. I was exhausted from the entire weekend. I still am. I worked on a gift scarf all weekend. It is still not finished.

I met another knitter at the sports bar this weekend, she had on a beautiful yellow shawl she had made. If you are living near Barnaby's ( route 3 and 476 in Havertown area) and you read this blog, bring your knitting and come watch football with me....on Sunday afternoons.

The scarf I am making is similar to the UFO boyfriend scarf, but it has a different border pattern and is made out of mountain colors 4/5 wool. I am using #9 US circular bamboo needles. I like this diagonal rib pattern for the center part of the scarf. It is different and is masculine....and makes a good gift for the men in your life. I am also happy with the yarn that I am using, it is nice and soft.

Here is the progress of my sleeves for the sugar drop sweater. The pattern can be found in Knitting on the Edge by Nicky Epstein.

Knitting Tip:
Knit both sleeves at once on a circular needle. I find this the most expedient way to knit socks and sleeves or anything that you are in need of two of the same parts. It allows the reading of the pattern only once and there is no need to attempt to match the sizes by counting rows.

The illustration to the left, shows you how it works out. In this case, this yarn came skeined. So I had to wind it into a ball on my ball winder and only have one ball left. I am using both the outside string and the center pull string for each sleeve. Hopefully, I will be done with the sleeves by the weekend. This project is getting old with all the stockinette stitch....and is past its prime and ready to become a sweater that is worn.

Yipes........its.....Chanukah...the Fourth Night....

I love this holiday....I love to light the candles each night....I love it even better, when I am dating someone that actually enjoys giving gifts. Sadly....UFO boyfriend is a total GRINCH!!! He needs to be replaced...does
he not???? He has never even bought me a flower...although, one day last spring, he did pick some beautiful white flowers from a tree for me, which was sweet! and surprised the heck out of me!

Actually, most of my girlfriends are dating men that are selfish and cheap. They are cute and successful, but expect to date a girl for the rest of their lives, without making an investment or a committment. Where are the nice guys? Are you out there, because I know several very attractive women that would be interested.

One of the worst moments of Thanksgiving Day weekend was the single's party at the Buck Hotel, when my girlfriend turned to me and said....where are all the attractive men? I looked around...and I had to agree, there were none. It sort of made me happy to be with UFO boyfriend....but, that was just a moment of INSANITY.

We having been talking about this, since last week and we are working on preparing a list of what we want in a MAN....besides the obvious attributes and equipment :-) Have you ever done this? It makes sense, because before you get upset that you can't find what you want in a man....make sure that , THAT YOU KNOW WHAT you want and it is in the forefront of your mind. We each got that advice from a male FRIEND....and it is good advice.

The next question is where do you meet a good man when you are 50 and over. Trust me Match.com is not the answer....or let us just say it is not working for me. I keep getting mail from men that should consider signing up for that Extreme Makeover show. I told one of them the other day, that I did not think we would make a good match, but thank you for taking the time to write to me. It was a very kind and sweet letter.

His response, " sorry, YOU DO NOT THINK!"

Now who wants to date a rude man like that. You can not expect everyone to be attracted to you. Chemistry is a rare and beautiful thing. I told one guy, I went out with who was separated and made nasty comments about his wife, who was the mother of his three children, that when he left this date, he should find any florist and buy at least a dozen bouquets of roses. Find his wife and beg her to take him back. After, child support and alimony, that guy would be lucky to afford a cardboard box to live in....let alone taking a date once a week to mickey D's for dinner. He could not afford to divorce her on his salary.

Match is filled with men, that seem to have financial problems, have young children who will not leave home til they are 72, men who think they are still looking 35 when they are at least 60, men who have not gotten a new outfit since 1976, men who forgot their table manners, men who have never been married...and we know why...LOL!!!, men who are reliving their college frat days, men that think a fun date is sitting in their PJ's and talking to you on the phone all night long and men that are obsessed with younger women.

If you are thinking of divorcing your husband, and he is an okay guy....just not thrilling you lately....think again. Hold on to that good guy....because good guys are hard to find. I sadly, did not have this option.

My ex was real head case.

Where can a nice girl, meet a nice respectful kind man these days? If you kno a good guy for me....please send him my way. I need help, I have been looking for four years and still have not found what I am looking for....now didn't someone write a song with that title?
